"Bonnie I know I messed up but I don't think I can live with you hating me. I just need time."
"Damon you're 181 years old, I don't think I can keep playing this waiting game anymore, I- I'm just too tired to keep fighting for something that never was." She slipped out, voice slightly cracking.
"If you're done then why are you still here? Why don't you just rip the band-aid off quickly and leave Bon?" Damon muttered.
"Because on the contrary to you, something just won't let me leave you." She shadily retorted.
"But let me ask you this one more time Damon, If you love me, why did you leave me?"
"Look Bon Bon how many times do I have to say it? I just wanted to protect you an-"
"No no, I think you wanted to protect yourself."
"What are you talking about?" He asked glaring at her sideways.
"Did you forget that I was your best friend? I know you better than anyone else ever will and I can tell when you fail to mention everything on your mind so while we're here you might as well just let it all out" she declared
"You're right Bonnie. You cracked me. I gave up all of this because I was too scared to admit that you were making me better than Elena ever did. I ran because I was terrified of what was happening between us, because it was something I-I just wasn't ready for it.
"There was nothing happening between us Damon, you were my best friend and I was yours."
"Who are you trying to convince Bon, me or you?" Damon uttered in defiance.
Knowing she was lying to herself Bonnie took in a deep breath moralizing the situation in her head.
Damon stepped closer to Bonnie only increasing the rate in which her heart was beating and put a cold hand to her cheek, gently caressing the side of her slightly dewy face.
"You can't look me in the eyes and tell me that what we had was strictly platonic" he gently whispered resting his nose on hers.
"It's torturing me to see you like this, medicating, hiding, lying because this isn't you. I fucked up bad Bon and I just want to fix it. I know it's not too late to fix this. To fix us."
Bonnie gently took Damon's hand from her cheek and comfortably held it not able to look up and face him yet.
After a few moments of comfortable silence, still holding Damon's hand she removed it from her face, lowering it to her side and lifted her head.
"You're right Damon I can't look you in the eyes and tell you that's how I feel because it's not"
"We've been through everything and lost everything together. The only things we didn't lose is the way we feel about each other, so what are you waiting for bon?"
"Damon I cant give myself to you the way you want me to."
Neither of them spoke for some tense seconds, trying to soak up the serious conversation they were having.
"I can't change the fact that I left you but believe me when I tell you that I truly care about you. I would consistently go the extra mile for you as long as it puts a smile on your face. All in all I just want you to be happy... even if your happiness doesn't lie with me. I respect you too much to play games with you."
Never in their friendship had Bonnie ever heard him speak so highly of someone like he does her. Every word that Damon spoke struck a nerve. She could feel herself slowly break down the brick wall she'd built around her heart and open up.
She looked at him staring deeply in to his scared eyes, sensing the thick veil of vulnerability between them she decided to cut her losses.
"Okay" she breathed out trying to keep her voice stable
"Okay what exactly?" He confusedly questioned.
"Okay I trust you with my life and I know you would never intentionally hurt me or spite me. I can't hold your mistakes against you forever."
They were both shaking scared of what might happen within the next few minutes.
"What are you saying Bon?" He asked unaware if he was ready for what was to come.
"I'm saying that I want to stop all of this." She paused causing Damons heart to immediately sink, dropping his one good hand from out of her grip she stepped away and turned her back.
"I don't want to fight anymore. I want us again. I want you." She quietly stated.
Damon dropped the hostility he was radiating and but kept his face stone preventing Bonnie from being able to read him like she normally could. She spun around and faced him with a heart filled grin.
She stepped towards him on her tippy toes and wrapped her arms around his neck tightly in a warm embrace. Without any hesitation he returned the gesture and snaked his buff arms around her tiny waist inhaling the homely scent of her sweet blood he missed oh so badly.
He felt his shirt get slightly damp while she let out light sniffles. He pulled her in even tighter nuzzling her head deeper in the crook of his neck holding on for dear life.
He ran the fingertips of his one good hand up and down her spine sending shivers with every stroke.
"I promise I'll never leave you again Bon." He reassuringly stated giving her neck a sweet peck.
