******************************************

Keith and I were walking around the town, I was pointing at some shops where we usually went to buy things we needed. I checked my watch many times to make sure I didn't miss my shift at the tech store. 11:27 am.

When Keith had first called up to ask if we still needed a roommate, I hadn't really trusted him. Well, it was just his voice, but there was something else, like he was hiding something. His voice was low and quiet, sort of like Shiro's but...
Actually, now that I thought about it, they were very similar. Both were secretive about their past and seemed to be weary about everything around them. But I knew why Shiro acted like that. He used to work in the army (I think?) and went through some rough stuff.

"Hey, do you think maybe, at the school, you could give me another tour? I mean if you can and want to..." Keith asked, looking away.

"Yeah, sure. Are you starting this Monday?" I asked, not sure if this is the right question.

He nods and looks at me, "Do- How are people here?" He asked in an unusual tone.

He seemed nervous...and afraid. Keith? Afraid? From the few hours I've known him, I can tell he's probably those type of guys who worked out too much and acted cool around other idiots (Lance). Maybe it's just a façade.

"The people? They're alright... Well, the people on the Altean part are." I said. I thought about telling him about the rivalry between Altea High and the Galra high school, but I decided not to scare him off.

"Okay. Well, um," Keith seemed troubled.

"You can hang out with us, if that's what you mean..." I offered. The cloud of frustration left his eyes. "Although I don't think you would want to... I mean, there's Lance so..."

Keith laughed, he looked relieved. "That's okay. I think I can handle him."

I smiled. Keith was an okay person.

(I mean, he thinks he can handle Lance. That's saying something)

                                                                        ********

Lance was in very big trouble now. He was supposed to be at his other job, at the library, twenty minutes ago! He also had loads of homework left, but he had thought he would be able to do it while waiting for people to actually need him. Ooooohhh, shit.

Agh, Simone is going to take my shift!  That was all that went through Lance's head as he raced through the streets on his bicycle.

He needed the money. No, you don't. Well who was going to pay the bills then? uh, let me think... your parents maybe?!  yeah, if they got off their lazy asses.

This argument (between himself and himself) always went through his head when he went to work. He was still in high school, had three part-time jobs at dingy places, and a younger sister and brother to take care of. He understood, though. His mother had been looking for a job ever since she got her degree two months ago and his father... Well, his father actually had a job. He actually made a decent amount of money, but he refused to use most of it for them. Lance always wondered why when he was younger. Now he knows. And he hopes his siblings never find out.

Lance had finally arrived at the bicycle parking thing outside of the library, where he put his bicycle, and raced inside. He crossed his fingers that the boss wasn't there today.
