You know those pennies, nickels, dimes, and sometimes-even quarters you find on the ground or on the street? You usually pick them up right? And throughout the day you end up dropping a penny or nickel yourself and the cycle continues. Well the cycle ends with my family and me.
My siblings and I have to scout the entire city in search of money on the ground or sit with one of those signs that say; spare change? My family is so poor sometimes the older children and my mother have to go without food. Ever since my father died four years ago our financial problems have only gotten worse and worse. I haven't had a hot meal since I was a toddler. I have never gone to bed with a full stomach. Since there are eleven of us total children we never have left overs.
There are six boys and five girls including me, Liz O'Connor. My sisters are Diana, Jamie, Myla, and Lucy. My brother's are Jake, my twin Sal, Michael, Jared, Drew, and Max. Over the years we've all found at least one talent we can use in order to get money from street performing.
This is the story of how we survive.
Author's Note:
