From Rags To Riches

Chapter 19

The next morning we all sat down for breakfast in the large kitchen. The cook, who's named I learned to be Rose, had made breakfast for us all. It consisted of a buffet across the banquet table.

Reaching across the shoulders of a pair of twins, I grabbed the jug of orange juice and poured myself a cup.

"Okay everyone, can I have your attention?" Walter asked, from the head of the table. When no one heard him, James stood up and did his signature whistle, gaining the attention from everyone.

"Now that we have your attention, Walter you were saying?" Katherine turned to face Walter.

"Okay, now we are going to announce the theme of the week so listen up," we hadn't noticed but there was someone recording behind us, probably to add to the beginning of the show on Friday. "This week is unrequited love. So everybody, break your hearts, get your songs and rehearse because this week some of you are going to have to go. Well, about ten of the bands will have to go."

James nodded solemnly, "We are searching for raw talent first, for chemistry within the band. If you seem as though your going to stab each other's eyes out within the first two weeks then your band isn't strong enough to last through the end. So everyone, get an ice cream, go shopping, bond. Because if not well, let's just say you won't have to worry about being homesick much longer."

Katherine smiled brightly, looking over the sea of now worried faces. "So everyone, prepare and may the odds be ever in your favor!"

During our scheduled rehearsal time in the band room, we were completely off beat. We had been given two hours per band for each day, since there were three rooms to rehearse in, one for every team.

Katherine was sitting on a stool, staring at us intensely with a crease between her eyebrows. "You guys really suck today. What happened to the tight chemistry you all had? Logan you're too distracted, Andrea you're hitting the wrong keys, Liz and Jake, you're off beat. What's wrong guys? Where's the bond?"

Logan said something along the lines of, "It went on a date with the competition," but I'd learned to ignore him after the comments he'd made all day.

"Well the main problem is Logan you're too distracted, so you get off the drums. You guys have your ideas for the song so pick one and focus. " Katherine twirled a small strand of golden brown hair. It seemed as though she enjoyed this color more than most, since she'd kept it like that for over a week, lasting more than most.

We looked over the list, Logan pointed at one and said," We're doing this. I'll sing, Jake can you handle the drums for me?"

Jake had been getting lessons from Logan for the past few weeks incase someone wanted to switch or if Logan couldn't play the drums for some reason. Jake looked at the song and nodded slowly," Uh, sure I guess."

"Okay, Liz you're singing with me. Andrea you get the piano. Now let's practice."

A couple days later, it was Thursday and we were supposed to be rehearsing but Logan was being... grouchy. I had just come back from a trip to the Venice boardwalk with Carter to find Logan sulking in the corner, and Andrea and Jake arguing about who knows what.

"You are so stupid! What the hell is wrong with you?!" Andrea shrieked, pushing Jake.

"It's absolutely none of your business! Now just leave me the fuck alone!" Jake yelled back. I knew he wouldn't hit her or anything so I wasn't worried about that. What I was worried about was the seething Andrea who looked ready to commit a felony.

"Okay guys, what is going on?" I asked, getting in between them before Andrea could claw my sibling.

"Jake has done the stupidest, most idiotic thing he possibly could have done! He-" Jake quickly covered her mouth before she could continue.

"I just made a little mistake and Andrea overreacted. We'll just settle this in the hall, right?" He said, staring into her burning gaze. Andrea stopped out of the room, leaving Logan and I alone.

Well, time to find out what's wrong with this idiot.

I sat down next to him, and watched as he sulked and texted someone.

"So what's wrong with you?" I asked. It was still pretty awkward with the whole 'I like you but you're going on dates with Carter' thing but he wasn't being as weird around me as he was the first day.

He sighed deeply before shutting off his phone and turning to me. "Just my bitch of a sister, Annie. She won't leave me alone about this competition."

Well, she can't be that bad can she?

"So what's the bad part?" I asked.

"She wants me to drop out. She's one of those people who, if you're not an exact replica of us then you're crap. Annie is just, she's a bitch who only cares about herself," he explained. "And since you and Jake aren't well, wealthy she's bugging me about all of this and telling me to make us lose."

Well then, nice to see I'm loved by this Annie chick.

"Oh, so is that what's bugging you?" Suddenly, before Logan could answer, Andrea stormed into the room.

"Alright, fine! You want to screw around and fuck up your life? Go ahead! See if I care!"

Friday night, and I was wandering backstage after getting prepped. Everyone else was still getting their make up put on or getting their hair done but I had been fairly quick about changing. Delilah managed to make me look good with as little makeup as possible, giving me about ten extra minutes to just wander.

I really wanted to know what was wrong with Logan. Was he still upset about me going out with Carter? We didn't even get serious, it was only one date, and I'm not really sure that I want to get serious with him. I mean sure, he's cute and nice and funny, but he tried to kiss me on the first date... I don't even know what I feel anymore and I really wish the band would go back to normal and fast.
