Mia's POV

"Hello?" I hear my mom's groggy voice over the phone.

"Hello, m-ma" I say through crying muffles.

"Que paso *What happened* Mia. It's midnight?"

"Nothing, I just miss you guys" I say crying.

"Aww mija, we miss you too, your brother and sister miss you a lot"

"I like it here with Alena, but I miss your cooking, I miss your meals" I say with a smile even though she can't see.

"Tienes que visitar mas mija *You have to come visit more often*"

"I know I know, I've just been kinda busy with school starting again"

"Yeah I know Mi. It's almost your birthday" she says cheerfully.

"Yeah, in 2 weeks" I blow my nose.

"You gonna do anything special?"

"I don't think so, I kinda want you to make me some pozole. Plus I want you to meet someone special"

"Ooooooh un novio *a boyfriend*?"

"Maybe" I blush.

"Oh mija, como se llama *what's his name*?"

"Colby"

"Es gringo *is he white*?"

"Yeah, it's that obvious huh"

"Si mija" she says as she quietly laughs.

"Don't tell pa yet, I'll tell him when I visit on Friday"

"Okay mija. I'm tired so I'm going back to sleep" she said through her yawns.

"Okay ma, love you"

"Love you too Mi, bye"

"Bye mom"

I end up falling asleep because my eyes felt heavy from the crying. I get woken up by Alena shaking me.

"What" I say looking at her.

"We're gonna be late for school if you don't hurry" she says as she walks to the door and closing it.

Shit, I forgot I have school today, second day of school. I look at the time and see that it's 6:30, shit shit shit. I only have 30 minutes to get ready and I still have to shower. I run to the shower, once I'm out, I have 10 minutes until we have to leave. I brush my teeth and pick out a quick outfit that probably doesn't even match.

"Let's go!" Alena yells from the door. Fuck.

"Okay!" I grab my backpack and phone and head out the door.

"You look like shit" Alena scans me as she drives.

"Aww thanks" I give her an exaggerated smile.

"What happened last night? I heard you crying. I didn't want to interrupt"

"I miss my family, I miss Brian and Sarahi" I say looking out the window.

"Yeah I kinda miss my family too, even though they hate me"

"They don't hate you. I'm gonna go tomorrow, wanna go?"

"Nah, you know I'm not in good conditions with my parents"
