Ok Airley stay on the bike, make all the right turns don't mess this up I thought to myself as everyone was waiting for the gate to drop. The gate dropped and off we went last race of this season and I had to win this race. I didn't hear anything around me but the sound of engines and the voice in my head telling me what to do at what time. "Airley Parker is going to be your champion." I heard the announcer say after the last lap. I got to my dad, David who has been my mechanic since I've been on a bike with my brothers. "Darling you did it." My dad said hugging me. "I won the race and I'm the champ." I said before crying. "Now Airley don't cry." My mom Natalie said hugging me as my dad stepped back. "The champ." My brother Adam said hugging me. "Way to go baby sis." My brother Keith said. "Baby sis won." My brother Sebastian said.
I did my interview and thanked my sponsors and then went back to my sponsor tent where my family would already be. "Airley Parker?" Someone asked stopping me. "Yes who are you?" I asked confused. "I am Dan Betley." The guy said. "The team manager for Team Honda HRC." I said surprised. "Yes, we weren't going to have anyone race on our team for the 250 class in supercross but I saw you and we just have to have you." He told me. "So you are offering me a ride for you for next year?" I asked. "Yes, you are amazing on a bike just what we are looking for on our team." He replied. "I'll do it." I replied not having to think. "Alight just give me your contact information and I'll be in contact." He replied so I gave him my information and then went back to the sponsor tent.
"What took you so long?" My dad asked. "Please don't be mad at me about this." I said to everyone. "Airley what did you do?" My mom asked. "I'm signing with Team Honda HRC." I told them smiling. "What?" Keith asked. "Dan Betley came up to me and said that they weren't going to have a 250 class rider but they saw me and they want me to ride for them." I said jumping around. "Darling that's great." My dad said before hugging me. "Yeah that's amazing, at least one of us is turning pro." Sebastian said smiling. "This is huge." My mom then said. "Do you want me to help with your deal?" My dad asked. "Yeah, I want you to be my personal manager." I told him. "I'll do it." He replied before we all went back to our hotel and went to sleep before leaving the next day.
During the off season I worked hard training on and off the track until I finally got to meet the other two riders two weeks before the first race. "Airley this is Cole Seely and Ken Roczen." Dan said. "Cole, Ken this is your 250 class teammate Airley." He continued. "Hi it's so nice to finally meet you two, I've been watching Supercross my whole life, my dad's into dirt bikes and I have three brothers." I told them. "It's nice to meet you." Cole said shaking my hand. "Nice to see girls in the sport it's dangerous." Ken said shaking my hand. "Let's see what you've got here." Dan said and off I went on my bike showing them what I'm made of. "You can tell you grew up with brothers." Cole said and I smiled. "My dad thought having at least one child become pro would be nice, it's just no one expected it to be his only daughter." I told them. "Yeah the 250 class person to beat will be a girl." Ken said. "Really?" I asked. "Of course you're fast make all the right moves, you will have no problems." Cole replied. "Thanks." I said. We all practiced until the sun started to set then I went home.
I hung out with Ken and Cole and they answered every single question I had about going pro and we raced our bikes getting ready for the last two weeks of the off season. "Are you excided for this weekend?" My dad asked as we were sitting down for breakfast. "Of course, I can't wait but," I said before stopping. "What's the matter?" He asked. "What if I can't race as good as the other pros, or fall during the first heat race or the bike fails?" I asked. "Pumpkin what's the matter?" He asked knowing that I never get this scared or nervous before a race. "Are you and momma proud of me?" I asked him. "Of course we are, we are behind you and we just want you to be happy." He replied. "Do you wish one of my brothers would be in the spot and not me?" I asked. "I don't care who's in this spot this is something you all love and I'm happy it's happening for one of my children truthfully I wanted you to be here doing this." He told me.
"What why?" I asked confused. "Because with Woman in action sports it shows little girls that they can do what ever they want." He replied. "I'm ready, I just I feel guilty." I told him. "Why what's on your mind pumpkin?" He asked me. "I uh, I wanted to go back to school." I told him as the rest of our family walked into the room. "You want to go back to school what for?" Keith asked. "I don't know but what if I get injured and can't get on a bike again ever?" I asked. "We can find you something you like, an online course that way we can travel and you can still go to school." My dad said and I smiled. "Thank you it's just this sport is dangerous and I want to be prepared." I told them. "We understand." My mom replied. The next day we looked at programs and I found a nice business program online so we registered me for it. "My baby's going to be a supercross rookie and taking online classes." My mom said. "Are you sure it won't be too much?" Adam asked me. "Of course not I have everything under control." I replied before packing and I knew everyone else was packed as everything was by the door.
The next day me and my dad were running around getting ready, everyone else would come down tomorrow before the race as my brothers had school. "We will see you tomorrow." My mom said hugging me and my dad and my brothers all hugged us and we boarded when our flight was called. "Are you excided now?" He asked as we were landing. "Yeah really excided and nervous." I replied. "You will do amazing pumpkin." He told me. We got to the track after checking into the hotel in time for practice. "Let's see what you can do on this thing show people who to look out for." Shawn my mechanic said. "Will do boss." I replied, going to practice. The next day the rest of the family came and we hung out until I had to qualify and what not. I was walking to my bike to get ready when I ran into another rider. "Hey watch where you're going." The voice said angry. "Sorry, I had to get to my bike." I replied getting mad at this guy. "A girl, ha good luck trying to be up front." He replied before leaving.
"What's with the face?" Cole asked me when I finally got to my bike. "The kid in the number twenty-four." I replied getting my bike. "What happened?" He asked. "We ran into each other and he said 'hey watch where youre going' angry and I said I had to get my bike and he said 'a girl ha good luck trying to be up front' before leaving." I told him. "All you have to do is beat him on the track." He said. "Beat who on the track?" Ken said walking up to us. "Austin Forkner, Airley had a bad run in with him." Cole told Ken. "Oh, he seems nice." Ken replied. "Well he wasn't nice just then." I replied before they hugged me quickly then I went for qualifying.
