Harley didn't register the salty tears dripping down her cheeks until she reached up and touched her face. She reached up and rubbed the liquid through her fingers, trying to ignore the sight that was right in front of her. But the laughter echoing from the blonde girls mouth was too much. She climbed down out of the glass cage and dashed over to The Jokers booth.
"She's punishing me!" she cried as she climbed through the tasseled curtains. The Joker looked over and growled.
"No one punishes you but me baby" he warned angrily. "No one."
Harley whimpered and nodded slightly, chewing on a finger as she watched Pamela closely. The Joker whistled to Frost who came to him immediately.
"You know who I want. Kick the blonde one out. Rough her up a bit." He instructed.
"And do something about her hair" Harley added, still upset. "I don't like it"
Frost nodded, calling for two other men as they approached Pamela and the girl. Frost quickly pulled the blonde girl out from under her arm, not that Pamela resisted. She screamed as he tossed her to the other men. She was quickly dragged outside as Pamela was brought up to The Jokers booth, that smug smirk still dancing on her face. The Joker tapped Harley's back firmly and pinched her cheeks, telling her to straighten up and smile, which she did robotically.
"Find a new playmate Pamela?" The Joker asked with a smile, running a hand through his hair.
"Doormats are easy to find." Pamela bit back, causing Harley's smile to falter slightly. The Joker growled.
"Well, I dont have scum in my club." The Joker continued before Ivy cut him off.
"Well what is she doing here then?" she asked darkly, nodding towards Harley.
The Joker hit her then, square across the face, his expression darkening as he secured a hand around her throat. Pamela didn't even flinch and Harley wondered how she did it. How she managed to keep herself from shaking or crying under his fiery gaze.
"People dont talk about my property like that and walk out of here." he growled. "I've humoured Harley long enough with you, but I don't like weeds, and I have an effective method of getting rid of them."
"You think killing me is going to fix the problem?" Pamela spat. "You had a child, she lost it, I'm only involved so you have someone different to take your anger out on. And I have an equally effective solution to clowns who's jokes aren't funny!"
"Stop it! Both of you!" Harley cried, climbing down from her spot of the windowsill.
"Hi Harley, nice of you to join us" Pamela said flatly. "I like your dress, beautiful colour."
Harley stared at her sadly. "You were supposed to be my friend! I trusted you! I told you my secret feelings hoping you could help me, not use them to manipulate me and my Puddin."
Pamela laughed. "Change the record Harls!" she said. "He doesn't love you and you know it! Did he hit you before you lost it? Was it his fault? Think about it, it makes sense!"
Harley's eyes widened as she shook her head, unable to fathom that Ivy would say something like that.
"No! He loves me! That wasn't the reason! It just happened, thats all! Right? Right baby?" she said, looking up at him tearily. The Joker growled and nodded, taking her in his arms and kissing her head possessively.
"Yes Pumpkin, you know this. It was a horrible accident." he said softly.
Harley nodded and cuddled into his chest, knowing that was exactly what she wanted to hear.
Pamela scoffed at them, secretly hurting watching as Harley, her Harley, found comfort in someone else. This wasn't right. She needed to get her away from him. But as she caught her eye and saw all the pain in them she knew her actions were only working to hurt Harley more. She needed her delusions to get her through. Who was Ivy kidding, she would never leave him, he would never let that happen.
But she still needed her. Harley would always need Ivy and Pamela needed to be content with that. She sighed and stood up, causing the Joker to rest his hand on the hilt of the gun.
"Im not challenging you, I'm going home" she said. "I'm tired of this. Keep your prize. You deserve each other." she said. Harley's eyes widened and she looked at her, surprised. The Joker let her go and turned to Ivy.
"You stay away from her. You keep far away." he warned, but Pamela ignored him.
"You come to me if you need to." she said to Harley. "One call and I'll be there and you can always stay as long as you need"
Harley only nodded dumbly as she looked at her sadly. The Jokers arm felt heavy around her shoulders.
"Take that dress off. Right now. Green isn't your colour"
Harley just nodded, pulling the dress off and standing in her underwear and she watched Pamela's defeated figure walk towards the door, her shoulders back, head high. It was the hand clenching and unclenching in the sleeve of her fur coat which made Harley run after her.
"Red!" she called as she rushed past the security at the door and into the cool air. Ivy turned around and looked at her sadly.
"Its okay Harley. Go back inside. I know you want to."
"I also need to know that you're okay. That you don't hate me!" she said desperately, searching her eyes.
Pamela scoffed and smiled slightly, although it was strained.
"I dont hate you Harley, I could never hate you." she said. She leaned forward and kissed Harley's lips lightly.
Harley didn't freeze as she might expect herself to do but responded with an equal amount of tenderness. It was different to how J kissed her. It was nice.
Ivy pulled back.
"Here" she said, taking her mink jacket from around her shoulder and draping it around Harley, who snuggling into it and enjoying the smell she could only describe as Pamela.
"Stay warm Harley, call me if you need to." she said softly, pressing a kiss to her forehead before disappearing into the dark, leaving Harley in the street alone with only fur to keep her warm.
