Okay! This is the last official chapter! I'm going to be posting the epilogue tomorrow and then this story will be complete! I'm so had to be finished with it, but at the same time I'm ready to start a new HarleyxJoker story for you all!

I hope you enjoy this little fluffy chapter before tomorrows epilogue! Lots of love, drharls x

It was well into the early hours of the morning when Joker and Harley got home. Her body was exhausted, slumped in the passenger seat of the car. He looked over at her occasionally as she took slow, meditated breaths. He placed a hand on her back and she shivered under him. When he got up out of the car he walked to the passenger side and opened her door. She moved to get out but he quickly scooped her up in his arms and carried her inside.

He immediately placed her in the shower, holding her weak body up in his arms as he let the cool water was the burning abiding aftershocks off of her skin. She whimpered and curled into him, half delirious as she trembled in his arms. He merely patted her hair and kissed her forehead.

He then helped her into some pyjamas as she laid lifeless on the bed, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. He pulled the covers down and moved her head onto the pillows and tucked her in. She gripped his hand and looked into his eyes pleadingly. Didn't she know that he wasn't going to leave her. He never wanted to leave her again. He climbed in beside her and held her close to his chest.

Harley just clung to him desperately, sniffing and apologising over and again into his chest. Why was she apologising again? She didn't need to be sorry. Not now, not ever. She was like that for days, a shaking, trembling mess for days. He could hardly stand it.

But he knew what he had to do. He knew to run his fingers through her hair and to kiss her softly on her cheek and on her neck. He knew that running his fingers up and down her side helped her relax and that whispering soothing nothings in her ear in the dark room helped send her off to sleep with ease.

She craved his comfort, his touch, his reassurance. She always did. And he craved the security and adoration which came with being with her. The way her hands gripped his shirt, how she nuzzled closer to him in her sleep for comfort.

He looked down at her sleeping form curled beside him. She looked so small and young as she laid there, her blonde curls splayed out over the pillow, knuckles resting against her lips.

How could she want a baby when she was still a child herself? Thats why it could never happen. Thats why they could never have a child. Their life was- too toxic, too volatile. It was too much for them to handle on their own. She was already to much for him to worry about without adding another quantity into an already explosive formula. It was more insanity, more trouble. He had opened his heart for one and he didn't know if he could handle doing it again.

And it seemed that she had come to accept it too. She didn't talk about it anymore, despite being in her fragile state. Thats when it usually came up the most, when she was upset and cold and wanted something more for comfort. But the subject had been quiet on her lips and she seemed quite content to remind him of how much she loved him instead. It was finished.

As he watched her shift when the sun hit her face he chuckled. He would deny it to everyone but he thought about it sometimes too, what they could have had, what they could have been if they had met somewhere else, if they had been someone else. They could have had a family, a normal life. But deep down he knew hat neither of them wanted normal. They wouldn't cope. His dreams of normalcy had died when he was thrown in the acid, as had hers. They couldn't be normal anymore.

She was his only baby. They didn't need a child to bring them closer together. They didn't need an extra entity in their life. One weakness was enough for him, and that weakness was curled up, sleeping by his side, where he could control her, where he could keep her safe. She was the only other person or thing in his life that he cared about. One was always enough.

Stay tuned for tomorrows final conclusion to the story x
