Chapter 30
(Music in external link!)
In the morning I wait by the lockers with Claire who’s chatting with a cheerleader. I’m doing some last minute revision for this mock test for geometry. I’ve been revising almost constantly since our teacher told us about it last week, Claire seems confident that I’ll get an A in it but I’m not so sure.
A throat clears behind me from where I’m balancing my notes inside my locker. I turn around and I’m greeted by that guy that tried to talk to me yesterday. What was his name? Fredrick? Paul? God, I have no idea.
“Hi, I wanted to see if you needed anyone to carry your books to class for you?” He seems nervous and I can see why. I bet he thinks that I’m one of those evil, silent people that observe everything to help with my plans of ruling the world.
I shake my head and turn back to my revision. I stare at my notes waiting for him to walk away but when he doesn’t I sigh and turn back to him. With and eyebrow raised I decide to speak, “What?”
“No-nothing. I mean what are you reading?” He asks in his weirdly deep voice.
I roll my eyes, doesn’t he see that I don’t want to talk to him. “I’m revising for geometry.” I say simply, hoping that he’s got enough information.
“Did you forget to revise? I revised it all last night.” He asks curiously.
“No, and you shouldn’t cram all that revision into one night because the chances are that you won’t remember half of it.” I say awkwardly, why can’t he go away already?
“Oh right, I know that but I kind of just forget about it until last minute then I’m a mess trying to learn it all. Do you like geometry? I mean you seem pretty intense in there.” He asks.
“Why, are you in my class?” I ask stupidly. Of course he’s in our class Luz! That’s why he revised for the test.
“Yeah, I’ve been in there all year.” He looks at me confused, probably wondering how I didn’t notice him.
“Oh, sorry. But yeah I do like geometry.” I say awkwardly, I look over at Claire trying to get her attention so she can get me out of this situation.
“It doesn’t matter, I mean learning is obviously important and it’s not like you notice anyone else.” He says honestly.
I don’t respond and just stand there awkwardly. Maybe he’ll go away like a normal person would. Can’t he just walk away? I look at him and see that he’s staring at me. Right this is too weird, if he doesn’t talk or something then I’m seriously going to walk away, rudely if I might add.
“So are you actually dating Alex?” He asks suddenly.
I feel a blush rise on my cheeks and I nod meekly. I thought everyone already knew that we were.
“I was just making sure, because there are a lot of rumours flying around.” He looks at me disappointedly and I can’t understand why. Maybe he thinks that I cheated on him.
“I didn’t cheat on him!” I squeak.
He smiles sadly at me, “I know, you don’t seem like the type of girl that would do that.”
“Oh, okay.” I say embarrassed that I brought that up.
He looks to his side and turns back to me, “Well I’d better get going now, maybe I’ll talk to you later.”
Before I can respond he’s gone. I look over to where he was looking and see Alex walking over to me, I smile until I see the look on his face. He looks kind of angry and I see Zeke trailing awkwardly behind him.
