GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER

I took a shower and got dressed. I had on a blue cropped top with light blue denim shorts, blue pumps heals. Earings and a bracelet. I brushed my hair and put on some make up and my favorite plump lipstick. Sprayed some perfume and went to the living room. Jake was waiting for me already dressed. He had on a blue shirt and jeans with sneakers.

We went out of the house and walked to the town. I showed him around the town. And we stopped at town square.

Jen: "So that's the town. Pretty small right?
Jake: "Yes. It's very small."
Jen: "My office is just around the corner. Let me go introduce you to Toby."
Jake: "Ok."

We walked to my office and went inside. My sister was at the reception desk.

El: "Hi you 2. What are you up to?"
Jen: "Hi. I just showed Jake around the town. Is Toby busy?"
El: "Yes. But he should be out soon. The town is pretty small right Jake?"
Jake: "Yes."

Toby enters

Toby: "Hi Jen. Good to see you."
Jen: "Hi Toby. Good to see you too. This is Jake. He was in a car accident yesterday."
Toby: "Yes I heard about that. It's nice to meet you Jake. I'm Toby.
Jake: "Nice to meet you too."
Toby: "So are you enjoying your time off?"
Jen: "Yes. It feels good to have some time off. Thanks again."
Toby: "You're welcome. I had a look at Mrs Lewis tests. And I think you should come with me and see this. I hope you don't mind me stealing her for a few minutes Jake. It won't take long."
Jake: "I don't mind."
El: "I'll make you some coffee while you wait."

Me and Toby went to my office. And Toby takes out Mrs Lewis tests results.

Toby: "I need you to see this."
He hands me her test results and I looked at it.

Jen: "Oh no... It's the same tumor my aunt had."
Toby: "Yes only hers is in a earlier stage."
Jen: "Is there something we can do?"
Toby: "I need to do more tests so I don't know yet."
Jen: "Should I call her?"
Toby: "No. You're on leave. I'll handle this."
Jen: "Are you sure? I can call her. She has been my patient for 3 years."
Toby: "Jen. Go enjoy your time off. I got this. So I see you are hanging out with that guy."
Jen: "I'm just helping him out. He's an actor."
Toby: "You know it's ok to like him Jen."
Jen: "It's not like that Toby. I don't even know him. I'm just helping him out."
Toby: "Ok. I'm just saying. Go and enjoy yourself."
Jen: "Bye Toby. Call me if you need me."
Toby: "I'll be fine. Bye Jen."

I left and me and Jake went to the Deli to get something to eat.

Jen: "Hi Miranda."
Miranda: "Hi Jen. How are you?"
Jen: "I'm good. Miranda this is Jake. Jake Miranda."
Miranda: "Nice to meet you Jake."
Jake: "Same here."
Miranda: "I had a talk with your uncle last night."
Jen: "I don't wanna talk about this now please."
Miranda: "You know he's just looking out for you. He means well."
Jen: "I know."
Miranda: "What can I get you 2?"
Jen: "Can you give us 2 of the specials of the day. And a caramel late with one sugar for me."
Jake: "And a black coffee with one sugar for me."
Miranda: "Coming up."

Miranda goes to the back.

Jake: "What was that about?"
Jen: "Just my uncle Ben. The one who's fixing your car."
Jake: "He's your uncle?"
Jen: "Yes. And that's his wife Miranda. He and my aunt were married. But they got divorced after my parents died."
Jake: "I didn't know your parents died."
Jen: "They were in a car accident when I was 4 and my sister was 3."
Jake: "I'm sorry."
Jen: "My aunt raised us. But my dad were her brother and it was hard on her to take care of us and deal with the death of our parents. So she pushed my uncle away. They got a divorce and she focused on raising us. And 2 years later my uncle met Miranda.
Jake: " So he's really your uncle?"
Jen: "Yes."
Jake: "Well that explains the talk he gave me yesterday."
Jen: "What talk?"
Jake: "He told me that I should stay away from you and not try anything with you and hurt you. Or he will come after me."
Jen: "He said that to you? I'm so sorry. He's just over protective."
Jake: "Yeah. I thought he was just a crazy old man that has feelings for you."
Jen brushed out laughing "You thought that? Omg that's so funny."
Jake: "Kinda stupid of me."
Jen still laughing "I can't believe you thought that."
Jake: "You can stop laughing now. I feel very stupid now."
Jen giggles "I'm sorry."
Jake: "So did he say something that upset you?"
Jen: "He got mad at me because I let you stay with me. But he just don't want me to get hurt again."
Jake: "Jen. I just want you to know that I'm not going to anything if you don't want me to."
Jen: "Good to know."
Jake: "I want you to trust me."
Jen: "Just give it time Jake. I don't trust easily."
Jake: "I get that yes. Max and I ran into Adam last night."
Jen: "You did?"
Jake: "Yes. We almost got into a fight with him."
Jen: "Why?"
Jake: "He said something mean about you."
Jen: "What did he say?"
Jake: "He... Um..."
Jen: "I can handle it. Just say it."
Jake: "He said that I must not try my luck with you. Because you're a hard one to crack."
Jen: "He said that? Was Olivia with him?"
Jake: "Yes. She's the one who stopped the fight."
Jen: "I can't believe he said that. He's such a jerk."
Jake: "I agree."
Jen: "Don't let him get to you. He used to be a pilot. But he got kicked out because of his drinking. I think that's the reason he is this way."
Jake: "And Olivia?"
Jen: "We were close. But we don't talk anymore because of her and Adam. But I don't wanna talk about this."
Jake: "Are you always this serious?"
Jen: "What do you mean?"
Jake: "From what I've seen already. You're very serious."
Jen: "I can be fun. Or I used to be a long time ago."
Jake: "So what happened? Why are you like this?"
Jen: "Because I am. I don't wanna talk about it."
Jake: "Ok sorry."
Jen: "I'm not crazy Jake. I just had a really rough time especially in love. I can be fun."
Jake: "I don't think you're crazy. I just think you need to have some fun."
Jen: "I know people think I'm stuck up. And I don't really care what they think. I became this way for a reason."
Jake: "I don't think you're stuck up either. Why did you became this way?"
Jen: "I have been focusing more on my job than wondering what people think of me. I have worked hard to get where I am today. When my aunt got sick. I took care of her. But there wasn't really anything I could do. So I took her to Toby. I was his intern. And I knew he was the only one who can help her or try to." I started crying. "But he tried everything. Nobody could help her anymore. The tumor was too big. So I watched her get worse and worse day by day knowing that there's nothing I can do. And then one day she died in my arms. Since then I've been focusing on my job to become an even better doctor. I have had many disappointments in my life." I wiped the tears away.
Jake: "I'm so sorry. I didn't know."
Jen: "No one knows except my sister, Toby and Max."
Jake: "Is this the reason you trust Toby?"
Jen: "Yes. He has been there for me through everything. We became close friends."
Jake: "So he knows everything?"
Jen: "Yes."
Jake: "Ok."
Jen: "Jake I know what people say and think about me. And I don't care they don't know me."
Jake: "And I don't care what they say about you. I want to get to know the real you. I'll make up my own mind about you."
Jen: "Are you sure about this?"
Jake: "Yes. I have learned never to judge a book by it's cover. Get to know someone before you judge them."
Jen: "Good point."
Jake: "So does this mean you trust me?"
Jen: "Not yet."
Jake: "Oh."
Jen: "But for some reason. I don't know why. I feel comfortable around you. It feels like I've known you for a long time."
Jake: "Good to know."
Jen: "Also you're an actor. I don't trust that about you."
Jake: "I understand. But you should know that I would never lie to you. I know when to be real and when to act. I'm a very honest person."
Jen: "Good to know."
Jake: "So do you want to do something else? Jake thoughts to himself - This girl is so beautiful. She's like a mystery I have to solve.
Jen: "Actually I'm getting tired. Lets eat and then I want to go home and get that sleep I need."
Jake: "Ok."

*at home*

Jen: "Thank you for today Jake. This was the first time I've done something for myself in a long time."
Jake: "How long?"
Jen: "3 years."
Jake: "That long?"
Jen: "Yes. It's also the last time I had some fun."
Jake: "Well I'm glad I could have done something for you. After all you did safe my life."
Jen: "You were just in a semi car accident. You weren't even hurt just a few scratches."
Jake: "Yes. But if you weren't there I don't know what I would have done."
Jen giggles "You're so dramatic. You would have been fine."
Jake chuckles "Maybe."
Jen: "I'm gonna get some sleep.
Jake: "Thank you for showing me around."
Jen: "No problem."
