You had never really liked Christmas.
The Christmas cheer, and the baubles and bells, and the tinsel and carols just weren’t your thing. Christmas was just another day to you; nothing more and nothing less.
It just wasn’t a big deal to you.
But it was to Liam, and your family, so you always helped out and at least pretended to be excited for Christmas.
You were helping Liam decorate the tree this year, and he was being the annoying brother that he always was – asking questions and teasing you.
“Why don’t you like Christmas?” he asks you, when the two of you had finished putting up the Christmas lights.
“I do like Christmas.” You lie, opening the cardboard box filled with ornaments.
Liam pauses, only to glare at you with that look he always gave you – the, ‘I’m-your-brother-and-I-know-when-you’re-lying-so-don’t-give-me-that-crap’ one.
You sigh, “It’s not that I don’t like Christmas.”
He continues to stare, raising an eyebrow.
You sigh again, “Okay, I don’t like Christmas.”
Liam turns back to the tree, continuing to hang baubles and bells on the large, green thing.
“It’s just… Christmas doesn’t…” you begin, unsure how to explain your passionate hate for the holiday season, “I don’t know.” You admit, huffing a little, before continuing to hang ornaments on the tree.
“I bet I could make you like Christmas.” He tells you, before grabbing you by the wrist and pulling you – gently – out the front door, and off on an adventure; determined to make you like Christmas, and fill you with the spirit of the holiday season.
