Tears were pouring down my face. I could not believe he said that. I can't believe he just gave me up like that.

I sniffled, and the door was opened. In front of me stood Austin. I looked behind him and saw Jessica sitting on his bed. I looked at him once more and gave him cold, hard look then walked back downstairs and headed towards the front door.

"Bethany, wait. Let me explain." Austin shouted coming behind me.

"I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear you." I said making my way out the door and down the porch steps. On the driveway I saw Petey's car, and him sitting in it on his phone. I wiped my tears, and headed towards his car.

"Bethany, just hear me out." Austin said, grabbing my hand and stopping me from walking away.

I turned around to face him giving him a cold-hearted look. I looked at the picnic basket I was still holding in my hand. I looked back at him, then threw the basket in his face letting everything fall out of it and spill all over him.

"I don't want to hear what you have to say. You're a little backstabbing, cheating boyfriend." I said to Austin.

"But you don't understand--"

"Don't make up a fake story to save your sorry little ass.  I'm still going to beat your ass." I looked behind me and it was Petey. A smile came across my face.

"Let's go Petey. He's not even worth it." I said, grabbed his hand and walk away to the car.

We got into his car and pulled out of his driveway. Petey didn't say anything to me, and I didn't say anything to him. Was this really the plan? To drive home in the awkwardness?

"So," I started off, "what were you still doing at Austin's house?"

"I was just texting someone. Better to sit still in a non-moving vehicle and text then text while driving, right?" Petey said to me.

"Yeah, I guess so."

"He's not worth it."

"Huh?" That was something random to say when we were talking about texting and driving.

"He's not worth your tears. Any guy who'd make a beautiful girl like you cry, make you upset or anything, is not worth it." Petey said to me.

I found it a little awkward. I didn't know what to say to him. But then again, his sweet words, his gentle voice, it all comforted me. Made me feel better.

"Thanks." I said. "That means a lot."

"Anything for a pretty girl." Petey said with a little chuckle.

"Well, you're pretty swell yourself." I said to him.

We were approaching the lights when Petey's car started to slow down and make a funny noise. He pulled over to the side just on time, right before the car completely shut off.

"Maybe it's time for a new car?" I said trying not to laugh at him because when he opened the boot, out came the smoke.

"Ha, ha, ha. Very funny. It's just a problem with the engine. I can get it fixed. I don't need a new car yet."

"Yeah, you tell yourself that."

"Alright." Petey said, "get out of the car."

"Why?" I was confused.

"Looks like we're going to have to walk home."

I looked up at the sky. "I think it's going to rain." I said, unsure.

"Then I guess we're just going to have to walk fast."

I looked down at my feet. I was wearing heels. Great! "In heels?" I asked.

Petey sighed. "In heels." he said.

"Dear god." I said. I got out of the car and started walking.

"So, how's it going?" Petey said,

"It's .. it's good." I said.

"Visit Spencer any time recently?" he asked.

"Um, no. What about you? Visit Jackie?"

"No. I was planning to, but didn't get anytime. Busy and stuff."

"Yeah, I understand."

"Maybe we could tomorrow?"

"Together?" I asked.

"Yeah, I mean if you don't mind."

"Um, yeah. Sure. That'd be great." I said. It'll be nice to go with someone this time.

Petey looked at me. "I'm sorry.  I shouldn't have brought this up."

"It's okay." I told him.

"It's been a while since I've gone to see Jackie. I want to go again. But I just don't want to go alone."

 I nodded.

"It... it's okay if you don't want to come. You don't have to."

"No, no Petey. I want to come." I told him.

"Thank you, Beth." Petey said.

I looked in his eyes, and he looked in mine. We just starred. His beautiful brown eyes. I couldn't look away. Seconds later, I found my lips on his. My arms around his neck and his arms around my waist. When I noticed that we were kissing, I didn't open my eyes in shock or pull away. I did what I least expected to do; I continued to kiss him.

I felt a drop on my head, but I still didn't pull away. I'm pretty sure he felt a drop too, but didn't pull away. We didn't pull away until it was several drops falling over us.

"It's raining." I said, softly.

"Maybe we should start running home then." Petey suggested.

A smile came across my face and I nodded. I took off my heels and held them in my hands. "Race you home!" I shouted and bolted down the street. Petey came running after me.

We both approached the driveway at the same time and stopped at Andre's car. I leaned  against it to catch my breath when I noticed Andre and Ashley sitting in the car.

Ashley stepped out of the car. "Why are you two soaking?"

"Because it's running." I told her.

"Where's your car?" Andre asked Petey.

"Broke down near Main street. Walked home, just like when we were little kids." Petey told Andre.

"I remember running home every time your dads car broke down." Andre said.

"What are you doing in the car with Ashley?" Petey asked Andre.

"Um we're just talking about--"

"Did you finish the project?"

"No." Andre said silently.

"Then get your ass back in there and get to work!" Petey demanded Andre and he went inside with Ashley.

Petey looked at me and smiled. "Lets go in." he said to me and we both went inside in our soaking clothes.
