I talked to Andre that same day. I asked him what happened. He said, "She wanted to talk. She took me to the room to talk. She gave me a kiss. She said she wants to stay friends."
"Then why'd she kiss you?"
"She wants friends with benefits."
I told Andre I'd talk to Ashley. But tonight I just wanted to sit in my room.
I kept Petey's sweater on, and put on a pair of jeans. I sat down on my bed and opened up a book. I sat on bed for hours and hours my book. When I was finally done the book, a tear rolled down my cheek. This was honestly one the saddest story I've ever read.
I looked out my window and saw that Petey's bedroom light was on. I reached out to knock on it, but Petey didn't come and open up.
"Up here." he said. I looked up and saw him sitting on the roof. I climbed up and sat beside him.
"Hot chocolate?" He said, handing me a Starbucks cup, then picks up his own cup.
"Why do you have two cups of hot chocolate?" I asked him.
"I was going to call you out and give you one."
"Well then, thank you." I said.
"So what brings you to doctor Peter?" Petey said, then pretended to fix his tie.
I chuckled, then opened up my Starbucks cup and took a sip of the warm and tasty hot chocolate.
"It's cold tonight, aye?" Petey said.
"Yeah. That's why I kept your sweater on." I told him.
Petey put his arm around me, then took a sip of his coffee. I looked up at him and smiled. It's nice to know I have Petey in my life.
We sat there in silence, and I just started thinking. Thinking about everything.
When I first met Petey. I saw him in the cafeteria sitting with his clique. Out of all of them, he was the one that stood out. Out of all the guys sitting there, he was the first one I noticed. The one that interested me.
The first party I went to, he dared me to a chugging contest. And then he didn't let me walk around wasted, he took care of me.
Even last night, he took care of me. He never took advantage of me.
Petey is perfect. He means everything to me.
"There's something I have to tell you." Petey said to me.
He turned to face me.
"I've never trusted someone so fast. Not as fast as I trusted you. There was something about you the first time I saw you. Something that made you so special."
I gave him a smile.
"I-I really need to tell you something, Beth. Something I have to get off my chest."
I raised a brow. "What is it?"
"I don't know... I don't know if you're going to feel the same way or anything, but I think it's really important for you to know."
What is he trying to say?
What is he hiding from me?
What is so important for me to know?
"Yeah, what do have to say, Petey? I'm all ears."
"Um... okay, I'm going to say it. There's no holding back."
I looked at him. He was nervous. He couldn't look me in the eyes. His hands were kept in a fist. I grabbed his hand and held it.
"You can tell me, Petey. Whatever happens, nothing changes between us." I assured him.
"Okay." He looked into my eyes. "Beth, the thing I've been meaning to tell you is--"
Just then his cellphone starts ringing.
"Hello." he said on the phone.
I put my empty Starbucks cup down, and got up, prepaired to go to my room and sleep. But just as I got up and started walking away, Petey held on to my hand. I stood there waiting till his conversation on the phone is over.
"Sir, what happened?" Petey said. His hand tightened around his iPhone.
I walked back and sat down beside Petey.
Anger and fear flashed in his eyes.
"Where is he?" He stood up. "Where is he right now?"
He paused, as the other person answered the question.
"Where are they taking him?"
After getting his answer, he replied with "I'm on my way."
Petey hung up, and still holding onto my hand ran to his window.
"Petey, what's going on?" I asked him as he pulled me through his window.
We ran out into his car, and yet I still didn't get a respond.
"Petey!" I shouted. "What's happening?"
"There was an accident."
"What?"
He sighed. "Andre was in an accident. The dude on the phone said he's lost a lot of blood. They're taking him to the hospital and he has to go through surgury. Andre's mom is on a flight to the other side of country right now. We have to be there."
My eyes filled with tears, until finally one rolled down my cheek.
