Petey drove as fast as he could. To me it seemed too fast.

"Petey, slow down a little." I told him.

But he just ignored me and zoomed past all the cars.

"Petey!" I shouted. "You need to slow down. Something could happen."

"Like what?" he shouted back.

I looked over at him and his eyes were full of tears. He was a mess.

"Like I could be sitting in the death bed with Andre? I don't care. He needs me right now."

At this moment I realized it. I realized that Andre is Petey's one and only friend. Without each other they're nothing. Those two are brothers, and nothing could ever come in between them. If something happens to Andre today, Petey wouldn't be able to live with himself. Petey already lost two people in his life, he can't afford to lose another.

"That's not what I mean." I put my hand on his shoulder. "Just drive carefully, ok?"

The rest of the car ride was silence.

There's no way we can lose Andre. I remember the first time I met him. Ashley and I were sitting in the cafeteria when he came up with Petey and tried to flirt with Ashley.

I didn't think of Andre to be a one girl kind of guy. He looks more like a player. One who can't stick to a single girl for long. But it's like Ashley changed him. Changed him to be a better man.

Ashley! I have to call Ashley and let her know about this.

I pulled out my phone and dialed her number.

"This is Winters, how may I be of your service?" she said to me.

"Ashley, it's me, Beth. We need to talk." I quickly rushed out of my mouth.

"Talk? Do you think this could wait like another hour or two? I'm kind of on a date right now."

"A date? You're on a date? Seriously?"

"What's wrong Beth?"

"It's Andre. He--" she cut me off.

"No. I'm not talking about Andre. We're just friends okay? Now please leave me and my date alone." She said, and I could hear the smile on her face.

"He's hurt, Ashley. You have to get to the hospital fast!" I shouted at her.

"What? What's happened? Is he okay? Please tell me this is all a joke." and now I heard the fear in her voice.

"We're on our way to the hospital right now. It should take us another fifteen minutes."

"I'm like five minutes away from the hospital, I'm in my car right now, call me when you get there." and then she hung up.

Ashley may have told Andre she wants to stay as friends, and he may have fell for it. But only I can see right through her phony lies. Whether she wants to admit it or not, somewhere deep down she likes him, a lot.

Once again, the whole car ride Petey hadn't spoken.

When we got to the hospital parking garage, Petey found a parking spot right away, hopped out of the car, and just started running. I ran right after him.

"I need to see Andre Mavor." Petey told the lady at the front desk.

"Visiting hours are over. You may come again tomorrow nine a.m." she said in the most slowest pace possibly.

"No, this is an emergency! Not some dumb 'visit' I need to see him now!" Petey started shouting.

"Sir, I'm going to have to request you to lower your tone, or I will have security escort you out." A lady right from behind said to Petey.

"Petey," I turned his face to look at mine, "let me talk to them, okay? Just stay calm."

He nodded.

"Our friend, Andre Mavor, was brought to the hospital not to long ago. So as of right now, I need you to do your clickity-clackity on your little computer over there and tell me where he is so we can go to him."

The lady gave me a look, and then went away to type on the keyboard.

"Alright, lets see. Mr. Mavor has been transferred from the ER to the ICU due to an organ failure, I believe." She told us.

"Oh my gosh." I heard Petey say under his breath.

I held onto his hand, then turned back to the lady.

"What floor? What room? We need to see him as of now."

"Sixteenth floor, room 1621. If you take the elevator over there," and pointed right behind her, "go up, and once you're on the sixteenth floor, go right from the elevator, go down to the end of the hall, make a left, go to the end of the hall, make a right again, his room should be the last one on the right."

"Thank you so much!" I said, then ran with Petey to the elevator."

Once we got in, we just stood there, waiting for the floor numbers to change, hoping no one would use this elevator.

"Beth," Petey looked over at me, "thank you so much."

"No. No, you don't need to thank me." I told him.

"I do. I really do." He looked me in the eyes. "If it weren't for you, they would have kicked me out. I couldn't do this, any of this, without you."

I looked back at him with reassuring eyes, then went in and hugged him.

Ding

Once we heard the elevator stop on our floor, we ran out and followed the secretary from the front instructions--right, left, right.

I saw Ashley sitting out on a chair right in front of Andre's room. Her head was down and in her hands. I ran up to her and she was just sobbing.

"Ashley." I whispered.

"Peter, Beth..." she said.

"What is it?" I asked.

Petey looked over at us, still holding my hand, squeezing it as hard as he could.

"There's a problem."
