The bare cracked up walls with a faded yellow color surrounded me,people were constantly keeping a check on me,wearing white coats.Their faces enlightened up as soon as they saw me open up my eyes. The bright light tried to pierce through my half-closed eyes which I found out was coming from upwards where a thing like torch was fixed. The room was cold, with hardly a chair, but only the bed on which I was resting. Two racks were beside the bed, their colors brown but they were faded just as the bare walls were;they were holding the machines which I guessed showed the steady and constant heartbeats, with the neon green colored rays darting up and down.
Suddenly my mind opened and then realisation hit me like a mini heartattack;I was in a hospital.
"Miss.Mahoor can you please explain how are you feeling right now?", the woman asked holding a note pad in her hand, and she kept scribbling down in that something, the scratches and the friction on the paper made by the pen or lead pencil flowed through my ears.
She had freckles spattered on all over her face but her skin was smooth as peach but full of pores like a strawberry, she smelled of different sorts of medicines and medicinal drugs used for treatment. Her sandy brown hair were tighed in a short bun at the end of her neck, the flecks falling on her face which she didn't bother to tuck behind her ears.
And then when she moved across she really smelled like something familiar,it was a familiar scent, the bubble solution which everyone used to play with in their childhood which brought nostalgic memories out of me.
"Umm are you alright?", she asked once again trying to look in my eyes and jumping on me to check my pulse.
How can I just explain how all this all felt?It was just like my lungs were squeezed and I was just searching for air,to breathe.Headache was prevailing all over my body and there was a lump in my throat that denied me from answering her question,I actually want to salute her for her patience that she was bearing my silence.
Feeling pity for her I just tried to open my mouth.
"Its a severe headache and constant breathing problem-", I muttered speaking in a voice which didn't even sounded like my own.
"Okay", she replied nodding and then trailed off leaving me alone in the bare, cold room in which there was nothing to notice. And then drowsiness engulfed me in and my eye lids became heavy, everything became blank.
___
"Mahoor?", a low voice called to me.
I managed to open my eyes.Everything were black before but then the lights penetrated through my eyes and then a blurred vision came into my mind.
"How are you Mahoor, how are you feeling?", the masculine voice echoed through the room.
But the headache was so severe that it wasn't letting me concentrate properly.
I just noticed that I was just covered in several pipes,a mask covering my nose and mouth sending me chilled air, which somehow helped me in breathing. The thin white sheets were tangled as I realised that I might've have sort of kicked them of while sleeping, considering that it was a bad habit.
"Please Mahoor,I know you have it in you,try harder", the voice tried to encourage me and it felt like the voice made me more powerful and send electricity through my veins.
"I'm fighting you know but its killing me inside", I replied my lips moving slowly.
"Mahoor you can fight it,I know you can, speak to me", it was Sameer.
"Sameer is this you?", I asked trying harder and then the vision became alot clearer than before.
"Yes Mahoor, you finally got me", he replied breaking into a wide smile. That smile made me even more happier.More strong to fight my own demons.
And then my voice cracked tears forming in my eyes.My body felt the urge to sit and then there were somersaults going on in my stomach, which resulted in me sitting. It was a mere achievement. What happened next was something that Sameer thought as unexpected and unusual.Because me hugging him was more like a dream, that was never going to happen."You'll be fine Mahoor and I bet that", Sameer blurted brushing my hair which still seemed to be velvety which helped me from embarrassment.
"Its going to be fine you know", he murmured through my ear and then rested me back on the hard bed.
Where was Ammi and Baba, and Omer and Bhai?
Why was he only there?
"Ammi?", I called out with pain loosing me.
"She's.....she's at here but.....busy doing some paperwork, should I call her?", he insisted.
"And others?", I questioned.
He looked across my face desperately waiting for an answer. Why was he just so slow in answering my questions? What was bothering him everytime I asked something?
"I just don't know about others but Omer just visited you when you were sleeping", he replied stuttering.
Does he think I really am a fool?It was so obvious that neither Phuppo nor Omer would even take a look at me or even visit to ask how I really am.They were too stubborn and snobbish especially Phuppo.
"Don't lie to me Sameer atleast", I managed to say.
And then he just looked away.
"Wait how did I get here and does Ammi know about this?", I suddenly asked worriedly.
"Know what?", he said curiously.
"That...that I have lung cancer", I confessed.
"Wait, did you know that already?", he asked squinting his eyes.
Yes Sameer,it was the day when I got my result in Canada and then there was an attack which panicked me and then the doctor's informed that I was diagnosed with lung cancer.I thought closing my eyes.
