Audrey's POV

The following morning I stood in the hallway talking to Riley.
"Are we going to go and see if they put up the basketball forums yet?" Riley asked, crossing her arms.
"Yeah, just give me a second." I said while looking around.
"Are you waiting for someone?" She asked with a questioning look on her face.
"I- umm..." My eyes scanned the crowds of students until I saw who I was looking for, "Oh! There she is!"
I rush over to Katelyn with Riley following close behind. I tapped her shoulder to get her attention. She turned around and gave me a friendly smile.
"Hi!"
"Hey, want to come with us to see if we made the team?" I asked her.
"Not that we didn't make it, of course." Riley said smugly.
I elbowed her and she grumbled something under her breath. I turned back to Katelyn to reply. She nodded and motioned for her friend, who I had come to know as Sophie, to follow. We walked into the main area and looked for the tryouts forum. Finding it, it said:

Girls basketball team
• Anne Cooper
• Jasmine Armstrong
• Emily Baker
• Audrey Lockhan
• Riley Watson
• Katelyn Underwood
• Natalie Gray
• Alexa Mills
• Paige Morgan
• Taylor Oaks

As we read the list, we all three spotted our names. Katelyn and Sophie high- fived. I congratulated her.
"See, what did I tell you?" Riley said in satisfaction.
"Okay, whatever." I rolled my eyes, "We should probably head to class. Hey Katelyn, do we have any classes together?"
She fumbled through her backpack looking for her schedule. I got mine out, and we saw that we have Geometry, P.E., and Biology together.
"Hey! Geometry is our first period. Let's go then!" I exclaimed.
We walked into our geometry class and took our seats. Riley sat on my left and Katelyn sat on my right. We had a few minutes before our teacher came in. I got on my phone to see if I anyone texted me. I had one text message.

James: Hey, congrats on making the team. Can you tell me how you do it?

I chuckled quietly and quickly texted him back. Katelyn leaned over to see what I was laughing about.
"Ohh, who are you texting?" She inquired with a laugh.
"Probably her boyfriend," Riley said jokingly.
"Am not!" I almost yelled, "James and I are just friends. That's all, nothing more! And you know I'm not dating anyone." I sunk into my chair, seething.

The rest of geometry passes very slowly and very painfully. Once the bell rung, I jumped out of my chair, grabbed my stuff, and headed out the door.
"Hey Audrey," I heard Katelyn's voice, "I'll catch up with you in a minute."
"Okay, I'll see you in P.E." I smiled and headed down the halls.

"Have you ever played basketball before?" I asked but soon realized that was a stupid question. 'Of course she's played basketball before you idiot, or she would have never made the team' I mentally slapped myself.
"I mean like- sorry, of course you have. That's why you made the team."
Katelyn giggled, "Well, I've never played for a school team, but I do practice down at the old basketball court."
"I can tell. Now how about we have a little one on one?" I passed the ball to her.
"You're on!" She said with a competitive look.

Katelyn started as offense and I was defense. She began dribbling the ball toward the basket. I try to cut her off, but she's faster than I anticipated. She shoots and she scores with nothing but net. She turns back to look at me with a big grin on her face.
"This may be tougher than I thought." I grumbled.
"Come on, Audrey! You can do better than that!" Riley yelled from the bleachers where she was sitting.
"Okay, I admit, you're faster then you look," I crossed my arms,"but now I know what I'm up against."
Now I'm offense. I take the ball and start dribbling to the right, but I then swiftly turned and started toward the left. I hoped this would confuse her so I could take a shot, but then, as if she knew I would do this,  she turned,  stole the ball from me, and made the shot. I stand there gaping and trying to find the words, but nothing would come out.
"Oooohhhhh! You just got played!" Riley was in tears at this point from laughing too hard.
"That's not funny!" I screeched at Riley. I turned to Katelyn very confused," How did you do that?"
"You learn a few things when you play on the street." She added, "Plus, you're really predictable."
This continued for the rest of P.E. I would think I had the game, and Katelyn would then prove me wrong. I ended up losing, big time. I stood there defeated. Riley came up to me and patted me on the back.
"Better luck next time. I still can't believe you lost to the newbie like that." She chuckled.
I pushed her off and glared at her, "I'm going to go change."
