Audrey's POV
The kiss only lasted a mere 5 seconds, but it felt like a century. I finally pulled away and stared at Katelyn. She looked back up at me, her doe eyes widened in shock. The time agonizingly drug on when she didn't say anything. The sound of the clock ticking in the background grew annoying as we both stood there, staring into each other's eyes. I finally snapped out of the trance I was in.
"Oh God! I'm so sorry, Katelyn. I don't know what came over me. You were there and I- I just... and then... shit..." I trailed off while pacing back and forth. "I'm so so sorry! I'm so stupid. I shouldn't have done that."
All the while, Katelyn stood there still trying processing everything that just happened, not saying a word.
"Please say something," I whispered a plea, fear gripping my heart. I could have just screwed up. I may have just lost my best friend because of a silly mistake.
Katelyn looked up at me with a large grin, "You don't know how long I wanted that to happen!"
"Wha- what?" I stuttered.
"I like you, Audrey. Like a lot. I have for a long time." She said sheepishly.
It was my turn not to say anything. I stood there in utter amazement and confusion. Instead of saying anything, I lightly placed my hand on Katelyn's cheek and pulled her into another kiss. This kiss didn't last long though as Davie came bouncing down the stairs. We pulled away quickly as he reached the bottom of the steps.
"Hey, sissy! Hello, sissy's friend!" He greeted us, oblivious to what we did.
I cleared my throat, "Uh, hi Davie. Sorry that I was asleep and you had to fix your own breakfast. Why didn't you wake me up?"
"Oh! You and your friend looked comfy, so I didn't want to wake you." He replied. Katelyn and I looked at each other and blushed.
"Well... umm, thank you I guess," I stumbled over my words. He hummed quietly as he turned on the tv to watch cartoons. Katelyn and I stood there in silence as the familiar tune of the SpongeBob theme song played. I gestured to Katelyn to follow me, and we went to my bedroom. I closed the door behind me and stared at her.
"Phew, that was a close call," I laughed.
She stared back up at me, her eyes filled with worry.
"What's wrong?" I said, taking her hand into mine.
"I don't know," she began softly, "It's just... what do we do now?"
I stared down at the floor. 'What do we do now?' There's no going back now, and I sure as hell don't want to lose my best friend. Friend... we are definitely more than friends at this point.
"We take it slow," I spoke softly. "We see if this works out. You up for a challenge?"She smiled that wondrous smile of hers and nodded. Katelyn then tackled me onto my bed, and we both laughed. She tried pinning me down, but my size gave me the upper hand. I flipped her over and began tickling her.
"Audrey stop!" She was laughing so hard she couldn't breathe.
"Nah," I said smirking.
Her arms flailed in an attempt to stop me, but to no avail I didn't stop. After five or so minutes, I quit and we sat there gasping for breath. I fixed a stray piece of hair."You're beautiful, you know that right?"
She leaned up to give me a quick kiss, "Well you're gorgeous."Katelyn's POV
I woke up a few hours later to find it almost three o'clock. I almost scrambled up but Audrey was right next to me; practically on top of me. I forgot I was still at her house, I was meant to call Mom! I lifted my head up and looked for my phone, it was on the other side of the bed; I reached over Audrey and took it in between my fingers and dragged it to me. Audrey stirred and rubbed her eyes with a groan.
"Sorry. I woke you up." I pouted.
"No it's ok, you didn't ruin my dreams."
"Why not?"
"Cause they've just come true." She commented cheekily.
"Oh my God you're so lame."
"Sorry that was a cheesy joke."
"Yeah it was." I said, "I need to call Mom, she'll be worried."
"Alright." She replied as she got off the bed and stretched.
"Can I stay the night tonight too?"
"Why not? Mom and Dad won't be home til Monday."
I smiled and called my own mother to ask if I could stay yet another night with Audrey."She said yes." I squealed gently.
"Yay." She squealed back. After that we sat in complete silence for what seemed like hours. Audrey sat up against her headboard and I sat against the wall on the other side of the bed. I looked around her bedroom subtly; it was surely better looking than my boring modern shades of black, white, and gray bedroom.I eventually got tired of staring at her walls and scooted myself over next to her. I rested my head on her shoulder and she wrapped her arms around me.
"Are you sure you want to take this slow?" She asked softly. I gave her a small shrug and went back to my thoughts. She looked down at me and inquired,
"Are you ok? Is something bothering you?"
"I don't know who I am, or what we are."
"We'll figure it out together, I promise. You need to answer me, though. Are you sure you want to take this slow?"
"Not really." I replied, "I'm not sure...yet." I stuttered.
"Well whatever you want to do, tell me, and I'll make it happen."
"What about you?"
"What I want doesn't matter; what do you want?" She asked seriously.
"Of course it matters, Audrey." I retorted, "I'm not going to do something you don't want to do." She sighed. And asked again.
"Are you sure you want to take it slow?"
"No." I simply responded as Audrey turned towards me and kissed my head.Audrey's POV
I sit on my bed with Katelyn's head in my lap. I play with her hair while we watch another movie. My stomach growls softly.
"Gosh, I'm hungry!" I exclaim a bit too loudly as a half asleep Katelyn is startled and jumps slightly.
"Sorry," I apologize, "didn't mean to scare you."
"No it's fine," Katelyn sits up and yawns.
"What do you want for dinner?" I ask her as I stand up and stretch.
"Let's order Chinese!" She says excitedly.
"Works for me," I grab my phone and order our food. It's fifteen minutes later and Katelyn and I are eating at the bar in the kitchen.
"So, the big game is in two weeks. First game of the season!" I exclaim loudly to break the awkward silence.
"Uhh yeah. I guess it's pretty big." She replied, pushing her noddles across her plate and pulling them back.
"Pretty big? It's huge!" I squealed softly, looking back at Katelyn's face.
"Why aren't you eating? Aren't you hungry?"
"I don't know."
"Don't tell me you're..." I started, almost unable to finish, "Katelyn. Please eat."
"No, it's not that. I just. I'm too precise to just 'wing it' ya know?"
"What do you mean?" I asked, the look of curiosity all across my face.
"What are we? I'm sorry, I just... need to know." She inquired, again.
"We're... best friends? Or... together. What do you want?"
"I want to be together. But, it seems too soon."
"Well. If you want to be-"
"No, Audrey. Let's just, stick with friends...until later."
"If that's what you want." I responded, nodding my head as I went back to my delicious meal."So, want to sit with me on the bus? On the way to the game?" I asked.
"Sure, as long as you're ok with me sleeping on your shoulder."
"I'm perfectly fine with that." I giggled as I looked at her plate and found her completely finished with her food. I took her hand, left the garbage from dinner out, and ran upstairs into my room.
"Wanna watch Netflix?" I inquired playfully.
"Put on Avengers!" She screeched. I gave her a soft chuckle and put it on. I turned back towards her and saw the flash of her brown eyes right before I collapsed onto the bed. She pushed herself up so she was hovering over me. Her hands beside my waist and her face not even a foot from mine.
"I like you, Audrey Lockhan."
"I like you, too Katelyn Underwood." I smiled as she dropped herself on me and kissed me. It seemed to last ages but it turned out it was seconds.
I rolled over and pinned her down, pushing myself backwards so I could stand up. I turned around and finally pressed play on the movie to turn back around and have Katelyn jump on me. She wrapped her legs around my waist and her arms, my neck. I held her under her thighs to keep us balanced. This time, I kissed her; right before I threw her onto the bed and started tickling her mercilessly.
