Audrey's POV

It's been a couple of days since the incident. Katelyn and I have been having a blast with scaring Aiden. I'll purposely get close to him, give him a sharp glare, and watch him scamper far away with fear in his eyes.  Besides that, today's Halloween! I'm not one for dressing up and going out to collect candy from stranger's homes, but I do enjoy taking my little brother trick-or-treating.
I walk into my geometry class and seat myself next to Riley. A couple of minutes pass before Katelyn comes in and sits beside me.
"Hey," I turn to Katelyn, "are you still up for coming trick-or-treating with me and David?"
"Definitely!" She says excitedly.
"Okay, I'll pick you up around 6 then." I smile at her.

I arrive at Katelyn's house around 6:15. She hops in my car, and I begin to drive away.
"So what are you dressed as, Davie?" Katelyn asks my younger sibling.
"I'm a pirate! Arrgh!" Davie exclaims with his high pitched voice.
Katelyn and I both laugh at him. After a minutes, we arrive at the subdivision, and I park my car. We all get out, and David starts running to the nearest house.
"Wait!" I yell and run after him, "You almost forgot your candy bag."
"Oh, thank you!" He replies in his squeaky voice and bolts.
I sigh and turn to Katelyn, "That child is a mess. You can see why I asked you to come."
She giggles and says, "He sure does have a lot of energy for someone so small."
"Tell me about it," I groan.

We spend the hour doing this: watching Davie run off, catching up to him, and having him run off again. It was around 8:00 when it started getting dark. I told Davie he had to stay close since dusk was setting in. Miraculously, he minded. Since Davie was racking up on the candy, I held his bag while he took a new one. When he walked up to another house, I searched through his bag for anything good.
"Tootsie rolls, lollipops, boring candy, boring candy- ah hah!" I reach into the bag and take out two chocolate bars. I hand one to Katelyn, "This is the best part about going trick-or-treating with Davie, I get to steal his candy without him noticing."
Katelyn giggles and walks closer to me, her arm brushes up against mine. I shuddered against her touch.
"It's getting cold out here," I stated, hoping she wouldn't notice.
"Mhm," She nodded absentmindedly.
I nudge her, "Hey, you okay?"
She looked up at me, "Yeah, I was just thinking."
"About what?"
"Nothing of importance. Hey, I have a question?" She changed the subject.
"Ask away," I tell her.
She went silent and hesitated at first, but then spoke, "Are you and James like a thing?"
I burst out laughing, "What? No, we're just friends."
"Oh, okay. I was just curious." She looked relieved.
"It's okay," I said, giving her a smile.

The night passed on, and it was 11:05 when I checked my phone.
"Oh jeez! I didn't know it was this late!" I exclaimed.
Davie gave a big yawn as if to agree.
"We should get going then. Davie looks like he could pass out at any moment." Katelyn looked down at my younger sibling and I nodded in agreement.
As we made our way to the car, I had an idea.
"Wait! I have an idea. There's this diner across town, and I heard they have bomb milkshakes. What if we dropped off Davie at my house and then go to the diner? Want to do that?" I asked.
"Definitely!" She agreed and grabbed my hand, pulling me away. "Let's go!"
I blushed and thanked God it was dark.

Katelyn's POV

Ding
We walked through the door of the small diner. We were told to seat ourselves and a waitress would be right with us. I picked out a small booth with gleaming red cushions and bright brown backs by the large window.
"Hello, I'm Lacy and I'll be your server, what can I get for you?" She asked politely as her flaming red hair fell into her face, only to be pushed behind her ear. I glanced our server up and down, black tank top and black leather skinny jeans with silver studs down the side seam. Interesting choice for a work outfit, but this is a 90s diner so it's appropriate.

"Want a milkshake?" Audrey asked me.
"Uh, sure, I'm down for a midnight milkshake. How big are they?" I replied, looking up at Lacy.
"They're about a foot tall and two and a half inches wide." She answered, handing us a list of the choices for flavor.
"That's big!" I exclaimed loudly, covering my mouth immediately after, embarrassed.
"Haha, yeah they are. I'll go prep the machine and you two can decide what milkshakes you want." I nodded and leaned over to peek at the piece of paper as she walked away, her wedge boots hitting the tiled floor.
"Chocolate fudge brownie?" She inquired.
"Mhm!" I responded with a grin.

"Decide on anything?" Lacy asked as she walked back over to our table.
"We'll have the chocolate fudge brownie shake, please." Audrey replied.
"To share?"
"Uh yes please."
"Thats pretty cool, it's hard to find people like that around here."
"Oh we-we're not-" I stuttered.
"Oh! I'm so so sorry! I got kind of happy about it and I shouldn't have said anything."
"You're cool," Audrey said as my eyes wandered her lanyard which had a small "Love Wins" button on it.

"A-are you allowed to have that pin?" I asked her hesitantly.
"Not really, but this is between us, alright? Haha, I'll go get your shake." I nodded and turned back to Audrey.
"That was funny." She commented.
"Totally, we're best friends, not a couple!" I responded.
"Haha, that's not even a possibility; we're too close."
"Heh, yeah." I trailed off as I first noticed how amazing her eyes were. Like a crystal blue ocean that you can't help but swim in, you swim and swim until you get lost and drown.

I was yanked out of my thoughts as the huge milkshake broke my gaze on Audrey.

It looked magnificent. Deep brown color with hot chocolate sauce around the edges, small pieces of brownie scattered throughout the thickness of it. And last, a large brownie with whipped cream and a huge cherry on top. My mouth gaped, I couldn't bring my eyes off of it. I never would have thought that I could love the sight of food this much.

"And two straws, will that be all?" I heard Lacy ask with a grin on her face.
"Yes." Audrey replied.
"Alright, I'll go get your check." She finished and smiled, walking away.
"Nothing like a midnight milkshake." Audrey exclaimed with a whisper. I giggled. Audrey and I could not stop grinning and I could tell my cheeks were tomato red. And I couldn't help but notice the small flame color creeping onto Audrey's cheeks.

"Hey, thanks again for coming along tonight."
"No problem, I didn't want you to be alone."
"Haha, did you have fun?"
"Yeah, I probably would have enjoyed it more if I could have done away the kid we were following." My small joke made her laugh, hearing it made me get lost in my thoughts once more.

Next thing I knew we were in front of my house, Audrey was kind of looking at me.
"Want to stay the night at my house? My parents aren't home so we can do whatever." She inquired, still giving me that look that I had never seen before.
"I'll go inside and ask Mom, it shouldn't be too much of a problem; I mean, you live right down the street." I replied.
"Alright, I'll wait here." She said with that gorgeous smile. I nodded and continued on inside.

"Hey, Mom! Could I maybe spend the night tonight and tomorrow at Audrey's? She lives right down the street."
"Sure, is it ok with her parents?"
"Uhh, yes." I lied through my teeth. I mean, I assumed it was alright, because they left her alone all by herself this weekend.
"Ok, go get your bag ready and you can go, but call me tomorrow morning when you wake up; ok?"
"Ok!" I shouted behind me, running up the stairs, down the hallway, and into my bedroom.

"I'm all set!" I squealed, slinging my bag over my shoulder and shutting the door behind me.
