Audrey's POV

Ding dong.
I hear this sound as I'm watching tv in the living room. I stand up and slump over to the front door. To my surprise Katelyn was standing on the other side.

"Hey," I greeted her while leaning on the door for support, "what are you doing here?"
"You're not supposed to be walking on a fractured ankle, Audrey," Katelyn stated, glancing down at my ankle.
"I technically wasn't walking on it," I said, crossing my arms.
"Uh-huh. Then how did you get over here?"
"I hopped on one foot because I'm just that skillful."
"Sure, that is until you fall face first on the ground," Katelyn sighed and then laughed. "Come on, let's get you back to the couch."

Katelyn wrapped her arm around my waist and helped me lie down. She then propped my injured foot on a pillow.
"There... all better?" She asked once she was finished.
"Yeah," I nodded my head, "You still never answered my question."
"Hm?" She tilted her head.
I chuckled, "I asked you what were you doing here?"
"Oh! I came over to help you, silly!" Katelyn smiled at me.
"I can take care of myself thank you very much," I told her.
"Audrey, your ego is too big for your own good," Katelyn shook her head.
I huffed and crossed my arms.
"Fine, I guess I'll just leave then," Katelyn threw up her arms in defeat and slowly walked toward the door.
"No! I mean– wait– please don't leave," I whined.
Katelyn turned around and smiled at me softly, "I wasn't planning on it. I'm staying the whole week by the way."
"What?" I asked.
"We have nothing to do, you need help and company, so here I am."
"Katelyn I won't let you-"
"Your parents won't be home, right?"
"Nope, they won't." I replied with a small grin.

I patted to a spot next to me, and Katelyn skipped over and sat. I draped my arm over Katelyn shoulders and pulled her closer. Katelyn rested her head on my chest and glanced up at me.
"How's your ankle?" She asked, voice full on concern.
I paused for a moment before replying, "It's had better days."
We both laughed. There was a moment of silence before I spoke again.
"I wish it would heal faster. This sucks– not being able to walk, and I'm out of basketball for six weeks!" I complained.
"It'll be okay," Katelyn leaned up and kissed my cheek.
"You're a big sap, you know that?" I said teasingly.
"You like it!" She said defensively.

I shoved Katelyn off the couch.
"Hey," she squeaked, "what was that for?"
"That was for being sappy and cute," I grinned.
Katelyn blushed heavily and bit her lip. 'She's too adorable...' I thought to myself.
"Get back up here you dork," I told Katelyn.

~~~~
Yesterday was just a mixture of us lounging around and doing nothing. After we ordered a pizza, Katelyn and I watched movies the rest of the night. We finally retired to my room after a couple of hours. We may or may have not had a mini pillow fight but nothing too out-of-hand because, you know, my ankle. We just ended up falling asleep on each other after we were tired out.
I wake up the next morning to find Katelyn gone. She was nowhere in my room.
"Where did she go? Katelyn wouldn't just up and leave, would she?" I asked myself quietly.
I ran a hand through my hair as I got up from my cozy bed and limped down the hallway. I decided to check the bathroom first. I knocked on the door, "Hey, you in there?"
No reply.
I continued to limp toward the staircase and then hop down each stair. Just a heads up, that was neither fun nor easy. I reached the bottom of the stairs and stared into the seemingly empty house. I rounded the corner of the kitchen just when I ran into someone. This someone just happened to be Katelyn. The collision had caused Katelyn to fall and me to have fallen right on top of her.
"There you are!" I blurted out while I was still on top of her.
"I- umm... just-" Katelyn was having difficulty forming a coherent sentence.
"Oh! Sorry!" I roll off of her.
Katelyn stood up, brushing herself off.
"Mind helping me out, buddy?" I asked her.
"Yeah, I almost forgot that you were disabled," Katelyn said teasingly while helping me up.
"I swear, once my ankle heals, I'm coming for you," I glance around the kitchen to see it messier than we left it last night. "What happened here?"
Katelyn's eyes widened, "Aww... you ruined the surprise. I was going to make you breakfast in bed."
"What were you trying to make? An atomic bomb?" I stifled a giggle.
"Well, I was trying to make muffins, but as it turns out, I can't." Katelyn sighed.
"Well," I turned to Katelyn while leaning on the countertop, "how about we try again but without the mess this time?"
"You're walking on your foot again," Katelyn crossed her arms.
"Well... I–" She cut me off.
"Should I go get your crutches?"
"I swear to God, if you get the crutches, I will shove them up–"
Katelyn threw the bag of muffin mix at me before I was able to finish my sentence.
"Here just open it," She laughed.
"Can you hand me–" I ripped the packet open and the muffin mix went everywhere, "Never mind."
"You-you got a little–" Katelyn couldn't finish because she was laughing too hard.
I glared daggers at her, but then I just broke down into a fit of laughter. We were finally able to mix the muffin batter and put them in the oven. When the job was done, we were both covered with muffin mix and other various ingredients.
"That was fun but also very messy," I ran a hand through my hair. "How could something so simple become so messy?"
"For starters, you hopping around on one foot while mixing the batter didn't help," Katelyn said while trying to clean up.
"I was trying to prove to you that I can multitask and function perfectly fine with one foot."
Katelyn huffed and walked over to where I was leaning against the counter. She pulled me into a kiss. I could feel her smile into the kiss
"Why are you like this?" I asked once I pulled away.
Katelyn's POV
I giggled as I grabbed her and took her to the couch. She limped along quickly, trying to keep up. We sat down on the couch and attempted at watching another movie. Audrey chose Guardians of the Galaxy as the movie for today. As she clicked play, I laid my head down in her lap. Audrey subconsciously played with my hair as she put all of her attention on the screen in front of her.
Almost a quarter of the way through the movie, the doorbell rang. Not thinking, Audrey shouted,
"It's open!"
We heard the door open and a well known voice say,
"Hey Audrey. I brought you some of your favorite soup from that Chinese restaurant you like." During this, my focus was on the tv until Audrey picked up the remote and paused it. It was then I came back to the very real reality and sat up to see James holding a large takeout cup filled with soup.
"K-Katelyn?" He stuttered confused as he stared blankly at me. Suddenly I'm the person he least expected to see here.
"Yes, James?" I answered curiously.
"What-Why are you here?"
"I slept over last night."
"Oh. Alright. Why are you still here?"
"I'm taking care of Audrey. Her parents are gone and I have no plans."
"Oh, I figured I would, just because I'm one of her best friends."
"Uhh."
"Sorry, I uh, only brought enough soup for Audrey, but I have games in the car; Monopoly, Game of Life, Uno, and some playing cards."
"Uhh sure, I'll help you bring them in." I said softly. Looking at Audrey with a blush before getting up and walking out with James.
"So, did I interrupt anything? Like, when I came in?" James asked, unsure of what he saw.
"Oh, no, we were just watching a movie."
"With you laying on top of her?" He stumbled on these words, practically toppling over on himself on the way to the car.
"Uh, no, I was reaching for the popcorn bowl. That was on the floor."
"Mhm, okay then."
"What can I carry?" I asked to change the topic, I felt the blush crawl onto my cheeks as my palms got sweaty.
"Here," He exclaimed, opening the trunk and dumping four board games in my arms.
"Alright."
"Are you two..." He started, but got quiet.
"Are we what?" I inquired hesitantly; I didn't want to see where this was going.
"Like... are you... Audrey-"
"No, James. We are not."
"You didn't know what I was going to s-"
"I do, now shut up, Audrey and I aren't a thing." I said, staring down at the pavement under my feet.
"You seem, disappointed about it." He said, looking not at all concerned. I shrugged to this and walked inside to set the games down on the empty coffee table.
"I don't see the popcorn bowl, Katelyn." James stated through gritted teeth. I didn't like the tone in his voice. I looked at Audrey and she nodded.
"Davie has it. He got hungry."
"Alright, want to play Monopoly?"
