"You guys will have a three weeks to complete your science fair projects. Remember, no volcanoes!"
I walked out of science with Mike.
"Hey, you wanna come to my house to work on science fair together?" Mike asked.
I nodded. "Yeah! Will your parents be home because my brother probably won't let me go to a boy's house if his parents aren't there."
"Um, yeah." Mike said slowly. "So, I'll see you after school?"
"Totally."
I walked to William's locker when school was finished and saw William was there.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey..." William said tiredly.
"I'm gonna go over to Mike's house after school to work on science fair." I said.
"Will his parents be home?" William asked.
I nodded. "Yep. I already asked."
"Alright." He kissed the top of my head. "Make good choices. I love you."
"I love you too big bro." I smiled.
I walked outside and saw Mike waiting by his car. I ran over and he smiled at me.
"Ready?" Mike asked.
I nodded. "Yep."
"Then let's go." Mike grinned.
We climbed in his car and he started the drive to his house. It seemed very far away. Farther than I had expected but I brushed it off as no big deal. When we got there, Mike led me inside and locked the door behind us.
"Why'd you lock the door?" I asked.
"Um, a lot of burglaries have been happening out here." Mike said.
"Oh." I looked out the window at the driveway. There were no cars besides Mike's. "I thought you said your parents would be home..."
Mike shrugged. "They must be working late..."
My alarms started to go off. Something wasn't right about this whole thing...
"I'll be right back." Mike said and he slipped out of the room.
I was about to run but I remembered I didn't have a car so I wouldn't get very far with that. So instead, I whipped out my phone and called William. No answer. I swore as I remembered he was at basketball. I was about to try Jessica but I didn't want to drag her into this. So, I called Clint. He picked up on the second ring.
"Lexi?" Clint's voice sounded like angels singing at that moment.
"Clint I need you!" I said in a low voice.
"What's wrong?" Clint asked.
"I'm at Mike's and he's acting super weird. I need you to come pick me up. I can make up some sort of excuse. Please come pick me up. I'm getting scared..." I begged.
"I'm on my way." Clint said.
Just then, Mike returned and I automatically turned off my phone.
"You know what I think?" Mike said slowly. "I think we should just blow off the science fair and...mess around."
I backed up. "Actually, something came up and Clint is coming any minute to get me."
I reached for the door handle but Mike grabbed my wrist, stopping me.
"You can't leave yet." Mike turned down the lights. "We were just getting started."
I ripped my wrist from his grip. "Mike stop! I'm not like that."
"Well I am." Mike grinned.
I backed away but Mike just continued walking towards me. I grabbed a chair and threw it at him. While he was distracted, I sprinted out of the living room and into a random room. I ducked under the bed and put my hand over my mouth as Mike ran inside. I heard him laugh.
"Lexi. I know you're in here." Mike closed the door and I heard him lock it. "You have nowhere to run to."
I heard Mike throw open the closet door and heard the sound of fabric rubbing against each other as he moved around the clothes. He checked behind the dressers and I closed my eyes, knowing that under the bed was the only place left to look.
"Oh Lexi," I looked up and saw Mike smiling creepily at me, "bad hiding spot."
I screamed as he pulled me out from under the bed. He clamped his hand over my mouth and he pinned my arms to my chest. I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
"I heard your brother got a girl pregnant," Mike grinned, "I wonder what that's like."
Just then, a loud bang came from the front door.
"LEXI?!"
Clint Bradshaw.
I screamed behind Mike's hand and heard footsteps run to the room. The door was kicked open and there was Clint. He grabbed Mike by the front of his shirt and slammed him against the wall, making a picture fall.
"You son of a bitch!" Clint yelled. "You're lucky I don't beat the shit out of you!"
Mike glared at him. "You wouldn't..."
Clint punched him in the nose and Mike fell to his knees, clutching his nose. Clint grabbed the front of his shirt again and held up his fist. Mike flinched and held up his hands.
"No! Please don't!" Mike begged.
Clint threw Mike down and turned to me. My whole body was shaking and he knelt down in front of me and stoked my hair. I started crying and he pulled me to him. I dug my face into his shoulder and Clint called the police. They showed up not even five minutes later and took Mike into custody. I watched from outside as they put Mike in the back of a cop car. I wasn't sure what was gonna happen to him but I was just glad I was okay.
Clint put his arm around me. "Come on. Let's go home."
Clint drove me back home and I laid my head on his back. When we got home, we walked to the kitchen and William ran to me and hugged me tightly. He started checking me all over.
"Are you okay?! Are you hurt?! Oh my God I'm so sorry I missed your call!" William said.
"It's okay. I'm okay." I said.
William hugged me again. "Jesus Christ I was so scared."
I hugged him and looked back at Clint. I smiled and he smiled back.
"Thank you..." I said.
Clint shrugged and grabbed a soda can and opened it. He took a sip out of it. "I just saved you from getting raped...no big deal."
I rolled my eyes and smiled. "Your sarcasm is not needed."
Clint grinned at me. "My sarcasm is much needed."

That night, I sat out on the porch in sweatpants and sweatshirt, staring out into the night sky when the door opened behind me and someone sat down next to me. I turned and saw Clint sitting next to me.
"You okay?" Clint asked.
I nodded slowly. "Yeah. I'm sorry. I should've listened to you. How'd you know about him?"
"We used to be good friends. He's in it for the sex and that's it. Like William." I shot Clint a look and he shut his mouth. "Sorry."
I looked back at the night sky. Suddenly, the door behind us was thrown open and we turned to see William.
"GUYS! IT'S MARTHA! SHE'S IN LABOR!"
