The play

The night of the play is one we'll never forget I'm sure. I was given one of the main roles. I was a sick grandmother battling cancer. Jamie played my granddaughter. Mellow was her brother and there were other kids from other classes who played roles.

It must have been weird for Jamie to have Mellow as a brother, especially after losing one. The teacher said her singing audition went so well that she could sing the song that's performed at the end. Jamie didn't have much of a choice sense it was a exam grade for first semester.

      While in the locker room looked at myself in the mirror. I was bothered by the fact I had to play a main role. My back actually felt like it was sweating bullets. It would be my first time performing in front of a crowd. This year we were prepared to step out of our shells.  It was time to shine and honestly, I was so scared.

   There was a knock on my door.

  " Come in," I announced.

" Hey babe," Danny said.

   He came into the room and hugged me tight, before plopping down on the mini bench.

  " You look really nervous," he chuckled.

  " It's not funny. I'm seriously freaking out," I snapped.

  " Awe babe come on. Your going to do great."

" Easy for you to say. You don't have to perform in front of the whole school, which by the way has no idea who I am. I'm like a non-factor in the school."

     As I continue he grabs my face causing me to fall silent. He just smiles and looks me in the eye. My heart slows down. My mind stops panicking.

" When your on that stage tonight, look only at me, you know, when you don't have to look at your cast members."

  " Ok," I whispered.

   I took a deep breath, before going to look for Jamie and Mellow. Issa was with Myah hanging up some art. I stopped and looked at the set.

" This is actually pretty good guys," I say wowed.

  " Thanks, I actually like being the stage manager," Issa snickered.

  " Don't look at me. I just made the art. And bought the frame. No one can put a frame on my art, but me."

  Issa and I laughed at Myah's random comment. It was so odd. It was the first time Issa and I had shared anything remotely close to a laugh. I didn't like it though so I cleared my throat and looked at Myah again.

" I'm going to peek and see how many people are out there. You think they'll see me?"

" Yes, the lights are so bright that you could see the specific dots on the moon."

" I go on the side and peek then."

I went to the curtain on the left and peeked out. I looked around to see if I seen my parents. They were on the far right. That was perfect, because Danny was on the left.

I went to Jamie's closed space in the locker room. She wasn't there, but her costume was gone. I went to the boy's locker room and knocked on the door. Charlie opened it wearing his doctor costume.

" Well you weren't the person I was looking for, but you'll do. Have you seen Jamie."

" No not today. She's been ignoring my text."
