I found the bag and rushed back upstairs not daring to check on my father. I put Dayton's lunch in his bag and shake him until he's awake, I stuff his clothes in his bag and rush him out the door.
"Autie," He murmurs rubbing his eyes, "Why'd we leave so early." I glance at him in his small car seat and then turn back to the road. Autie is what he's called me ever since our parents started acting up.
"Dayton we have a long day ahead of us so I thought we should get an early start!" I try my best to sound bright and fake a smile. Seeming unconvinced he turns and slowly falls asleep in his seat. I smile at his calm deep breaths and continue to drive towards the gym. After reaching the gym I shake Dayton once again and he stumbles out of the car sleepily. The only other car in the parking lot is Mrs. Forester the gym manager. I put one hand on the crease of Dayton's back to help lead him inside and use the other to carry his clothes. We walk in the front door and Dayton waves at Mrs. Forester before heading towards the showers. I turn to her and she smiles kindly, "Thank you again so much for letting us use the showers and for giving me a job it really is a huge help." I say gratefully. She shakes her head before replying,
"There's no problem with it you are both very nice kids and you need a way to fend for yourselves seeing as your parents don't" there's a hint of bitterness at her last words but I shrug it off. She walks into the back room before grabbing a towel for Dayton, I shake my head in thanks and walk to the locker room where Dayton is. I set the towel down on a bench with his clothes and walk out, I sit down with Mrs. Forester and talk with her about her family and her life. She has a perfect life. A loving family, good looks, a kind and caring husband, and lots of money. I check the time silently wait for Dayton to get done with his shower, 5:50 A.M. His school starts at 7:45 and it takes us 20 minutes to get there from here. Plenty of time. Dayton trots over to Mrs. Forester and gives her a great big hug,
"Hiya!" He giggles as he bounces around her like a kangaroo. Mrs. Forester and I both smile at him and she sits him on her lap and brushes his wet hair. When she's done styling it he hops off her lap and rolls around with the big yoga balls that are supplied here.
"You never did tell me why you didn't major in cosmetology in college." I say curiously tilting my head like an eager puppy.
"Well it's a long story but to shorten it I'll just say my parents had other plans for me."
"I'm guessing gym manager wasn't one of them?" I ask. She shakes her head no and we both laugh. Her mother never approved of anything she did and thought she should have worked as a veterinarian. I shake my head and check the time again, 7:10 A.M. "It's 7:10 already jeez.."
"You better go now if your gonna get McDonald's on the way!" Mrs. Forester says. I look up confused,
"Mrs. Forester we don't have the money for McDonald's."
"Oh Autumn honey don't call me that it's Julie or Jules. And my treat, that little guy is going to need some food in him!" She smiles as she hands me one fifty dollars bill and one twenty dollar bill.
"Mrs. Forester- uh I mean Jules! You can't be serious!" I exclaim. She nods smiling and I hug her tight. "Dayton come on!" Dayton gallops to the car giddily and I climb into the drivers side smiling. It's been forever since Dayton and I had a decent breakfast. We drive to the nearby McDonald's and quickly order our food, I glance over at Dayton and smile. He is drooling from the delicious scents surrounding the McDonald's and you can see the excitement in his eyes. We get our food and I whirl Dayton off to school giving him 10 dollars for whatever he wanted. He smiles up at me happily before climbing out of the car and skipping inside. I watch him go inside and smile, I hadn't seen his smile in forever. It made me happy, I drove back to the gym and parked the car with ease. Walking to the door of the gym I lock my car and start a long day of work.A/n: Almost forgot the author's note haha. Anyways the picture is Dayton cuz that lil boy is just adorable and it kills me. I'm going to keep updating this story and hopefully I don't fall behind. Thank you everyone who supports me right now even if it's not a lot. I love all of my fans no matter how many there are.
