Steve's P.O.V.
The next morning, I was sitting in my office, trying to fight unbearable fatigue. I tossed and turned all night, thinking about what happened with Danny. He has to understand, I meant to say something. I just didn't know what to say, how to make him calm down. I blew it though, my only chance to show him that I'm not afraid to love him, I'm just scared. I'm scared that if things won't work out, what will happen with us. What will happen to the team. Before I got to continue my thoughts, Chin walked in.
"Hey." He said, "Hey, sit down." I responded. He walked over and got straight to the point, "So I heard that you had a sit down with Wo Fat's father?" I nodded, trying to forget about the Danny problem. "Yeah, it, uh it was not what I expected, I'll tell you that." I chuckled a little bit. He crossed his arms, "You know, he was kept off the grid for 40 years. How did he even know you were the one who killed his son?" He asked.
I shook my head, "I have no idea." I didn't know what else to say, "But his handlers monitored the meet, and, uh, I don't know, it was clear to me that I was just there to listen." He nodded, understanding this seemingly completely.
He was quiet for a minute, "So I guess you never got the chance to ask if he knows where you're mother is, eh?" He asked. I shook my head once, "No." I answered, but continued on, "But what I did get from the conversation is that he has not seen Doris for, at least, a couple of decades, and the people detaining him are making sure those two don't connect." He raised his eyebrows and smiled slightly.
"Take it and move on, because forgiveness is definitely the last thing that anyone would expect from that bloodline, trust me." I nodded again, "Well, I can see it worked for you and Abby right?" I grinned and he smiled back, "Well, seeing as she is back in San Fransisco getting her stuff, I guess you could say that, yeah."
"How do you feel about that?" I asked. He thought for a minute, "Well, let's just say I'm getting used to the idea that I'm gonna have a lot more throw pillows in my life." We chuckled at the thought. "But I'm all good with it." He said after a minute. I nodded again, "And what about your niece, man?" He pursed his lips, "Sarah. She's still with Child Protective Services, unfortunately." My face fell, remembering, "You know how long that can take, right Chin?"
"It's not about finding a home, Steve." He was quick to respond, "It's about finding the right home." I didn't respond, just studied his face. It was a distant look spread across it, almost like he was trying to unravel an unsolvable mystery. "I know that look, man, I see that." I said to him.
"Don't think it hasn't crossed my mind, Steve." His eyes flickered, "I have to do what I have to do." I processed this thought, but was interrupted by my phone ringing. I picked up the phone and had a brief conversation with one of Dae's assistants, telling me to meet him with Danny at the plane.
I walked down the hall to Danny's office and pushed open the door. He looked up, "Hey, we got the call. It's time to suit up." I said to him. We walked out to the car in silence. I finally broke it. "And for the record, we are definitely talking after we make this arrest." I looked at him, but he stared at the ground, "You're not the only one who has things that you want to get off your chest about our situation. You're not the only ones with feelings." He stayed silent as we slipped into the car and drove towards the fields. It was going to be a great flight.
