Kono's P.O.V.

I knew he was resting, but I couldn't wait any longer. I opened the door quietly to reveal his still body on the bed, peacefully breathing. I walked over to him cautiously, over to the man that saved me, and my cousin, countless times. I leant against the bed, afraid that the emotions would take me over. I gingerly touched his hand, grimacing at the coldness of them. I looked at his face, biting my cheek, trying not to look (or sound) crazy, but I was almost positive he had a little smile on the damned face of his.

"Hey, boss." I said quietly. I looked at the ground, as if embarrassed in front of unconscious man. "Why is it that people never say what they want to say until something like this happens?" I said out of uncertainty. I looked up from the ground, right into his face, I only wanted to say the truth, "The day I met you six years ago, at Waimea Bay you changed my life." I told him, seeing the memory in my my brain, "You gave me more than just a job, you gave me a family." I squeezed his hand tighter, "And I never told you how much I appreciate it all." I leant over the bed and softly kissed him on the head, a tear dripped on his forehead, "Mahalo."

The kiss must of triggered a nerve because, suddenly his neck rolled a little and his eyelashes fluttered. He must have been coming to, so I took a step back. I went over to sit in a chair, thinking it would be nice for him to have someone there when he awoke from his slumber. As I headed to the chair, I heard the door beginning to open. I thought it was the doctor, so I hurried over to the bathroom across the room. I didn't want to get in trouble, in yet another hospital. I quickly closed the door behind me. I took a deep breath as I reached safety. Curious to see who it was, I slumped to the floor and peered out the crack in the door.

The light was dim, so it was difficult make out whether the being was male or female, but no one else on the island had that Jersey accent. It was Danny, standing near Steve's bed. Steve was awake as well, sitting straight up, mumbling softly. I pressed my ear to the door, eager to hear the conversation, hoping it would clear up my uncertainties about what the hell was going on.

Steve's P.O.V.

Kono thought I was unconscious when she came in, but she was mistaken. I almost let a tear slip when she said those heartfelt words. I wished I said something to her, ease her guilt somehow,  but I wouldn't know what to say. Danny walked in, causing me to bolt upright.

"Hey." He mumbled, his voice cracking. I sniffed, not responding, fiddling with my hospital band.  He walked towards the bed slowly, stopping at the foot of the gurney. I finally looked up at him through blurry eyes, seeing his worried face. I crossed my arms over my chest tight, unsure of what to say. I had some much to say, but nothing at the same time.

"I'm really sorry, Steve." He nearly whispered, "I wish I could've done more, or anything for that matter. I was just so fucking overwhelmed, and Dae was no help at all. He was just complaining the entire damn time and it got to the point where I almost shot him in the face-" I didn't even realize I was sitting on the bed at the time, until I felt his hand on my back.

"Uh-" I began to say but he shook his head, "For once in your life, please shut the fuck up." He said, seriously. I smiled slightly, and let myself relax. He leant back, bringing me with him. He laid on his side, facing me. I swung legs up on the bed, resting my head on his pillow, facing him. I pulled him closer as he closed his eyes.

I gently placed my hand on his cheek, my thumb gently stroking beneath his eye, my fingers wrapped around his jaw. He inhaled sharply as our legs intertwined. Tears fell for all the things I never said, and wish I had. closed my eyes slowly, comforted by his warm embrace, knowing he was there. We fell asleep together, forever we will be together.
