Kono's P.O.V.

"Okay, okay," I said on the phone, "Thanks for letting us know." I placed the phone back on the receiver and sat back in my chair. All these frantic thoughts were running through mind. I could feel tears forming behind my eyes. Steve was hurt, Danny was probably freaking out, and we couldn't do anything about it. I slowly stood up and pushed the chair into the desk. I took a few steps towards the door, stepping gingerly. I felt light headed and out of sorts. I grabbed onto the filing cabinet to prevent me from collapsing.

I heard Chin's voice coming up the hallway, so I opened the door and walked out into the room. Lou said something to make Chin laugh, but the look on my face quickly silenced them. "Kono?" Chin asked, a look of concern on his face. I swallowed, trying not to break down, "Just got a call from Honolulu HIC." I said quietly, "Somebody attacked our transport mid-flight." Lou pursed his lips as Chin looked at the ground, losing faith slowly.  I took a deep breath before adding, "Steve's been shot." They snapped their heads up in concern, "Shot? Is he okay?" Chin asked. "He's not responding." I nearly whispered.

We were quiet for a minute, but Chin broke the silence,  "Wait, who's flying the plane?" No one responded.

Flash to scene on plane

Danny's P.O.V.

"What are we gonna do?" Dae asked frantically. "He said we have to ditch." I said without turning around. "Yeah, well, we're not ditching." Dae said, mostly to himself. I saw the right engine slowly stop spinning out of the corner of my eye. A few seconds later, I saw the left engine stop turning. I sighed and picked up the radio.

"Control, we just lost both of our engines." I spoke into the metal box, "All right, Detective," The voice said, "beneath the dash is a large red handle. Pull it to feather your prop." I didn't respond, looking for the handle, keeping one hand on the wheel. "Don't try to fight gravity." He said. I finally found the handle, "Uh-huh, large red handle; do not fight gravity, copy, got that." I spoke into the radio.

"All right, Detective, next to the radio controls are your landing gear settings." I looked at the gear settings as he spoke, "There's a switch labeled "up water; flip it." I found the switch and flipped it, reading up water in dark blue lettering. "Lower your flaps one more peg to the landing position." He said slowly. "Okay." I put my hand on the peg and changed it to the landing position, feeling the plane shift beneath us. "Okay, done." I said as it settled in place. "Okay, good. Now you're gonna have to put her down on the water." He said, but I instantly sat up straighter, ready to object.

"Adjust your course to 175 degrees, and let yourself glide." He said slowly. "Ah Ah All right, uh, control, that's not gonna work, okay? My partner, he's he's unconscious." I told him, looking over at Steve's still, barely breathing body. I raised the radio to my mouth again,

"If I put this thing down on the water, I'm not gonna be able to get him out of the plane and he's gonna drown." I said, closing my eyes and shaking my head. The voice suddenly got more serious and louder. "You don't have a choice, Detective."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah, I-I-I got a choice." I said, "I-I'm gonna put this thing down on the beach, okay?" I continued, nodding, looking over the horizon, noticing how close we were to Waikiki beach. "Detective, we strongly advise against that decision." He said sternly, "I understand your concern for your friend, but consider yourself." I looked over at Steve as he muttered those sharp words.

"Your best chance of survival," He continued, "is a water landing."

"Listen, I'm not gonna put it down in the water." I said, getting louder with frustration, "I'm putting this thing down on the beach, okay?" When the voice didn't respond, I gripped the radio tighter, "Clear the beach, I'm coming in."
