After a few days past and my white coat was now permanently stained with blood, I was training one of the girls, Ginger. Her hands were shaky as I tried to teach her to stitch but she was learning.
"Your doing good so far. Just angle the needle like this. Its easier to get into the skin." I tilt the needle as Ginger sighs. She stitches the soldier up as he was unconscious. It was better to get the work done when they are unconscious. we don't have to restrain them. I insert anesthetic syringe into the soldier. Even though he was unconscious is better to feel no pain. Most people say you don't feel pain when you're asleep. You'll feel it when you wake up. But you can also feel it in a dream said so in one of the books I read. Wipe my bloody hands on my coat as Ginger cleans up the stitches. Bucky walks in the tent.
"I think I have a heart condition." Bucky holds a hand up to his heart.
"Heart attack?" Ginger asked. She couldn't tell if he was serious or it didn't look like he was having a heart attack or anything. He only wore smile.
"Just heart ache. I've been missing my nurse." He chuckles as Ginger giggles.
"You're not injured. What are you doing here?" I smiled at him.
“We attack in Germany tomorrow. We'll be on our way in a few hours.” Bucky said. The pit of my stomach turned to ice.
"Oh. How long?” I asked after a moment. Yes, I am worried. He was one of my friends. I only had two.
“Not too long. It depends. I’ll be back before you know it.” he said, his serious expression being replaced by a grin. I shook my head holding a small smile. It soon fades in the back of my mind, I prayed nothing would happen to him. I turn to clean up my tools.
"Willow?" Bucky walks over to me. I look over at the only nurse in the tent, Ginger.
"Patient is stable?"
"He should be find." She says.
"Can you give us a moment?" I asked her as she smiles lightly and nods her head stepping out of the tent. There was a moment of silence as I turn to Bucky.
"I don't wanna lose you." I break the silence. I had to admit, after leaving Steve back in Brooklyn I've only felt closer to Bucky during this time.
"You wont. I'll do anything to get back. Especially for you." He winks as I chuckle lightly. I hug him as I lay my head on his chest.
"Oh hush. Just come back for me." His chin rested on top of my head. I tilt my head up and look him in the eyes as he seemed like he was going to kiss my lips. I turn my head and let him kiss my cheek. I knew Bucky had some sort of feelings for me. I didn't know if I was in the position of one of the girls he'd have one night stands with or if he actually wanted something real. I wanted something real.
"You come back to me, then you can have a real kiss." I tell him as he smiles softly at me.
"I Promise, doll."
Weeks went on after that and I was becoming more distraught as the days went on. Every morning, I would fail to remember that Bucky was in Germany and wouldn’t be waiting for me in the medical tent. I became more quiet with the other nurses. They were getting better day by day but none of them were in any condition to submit any syringes into a soldier. They couldn't find the vein.
Although there was a big fuss I heard the girls talking about some super soldier Captain America was coming to put a show on with a few dancing girls. I rolled my eyes at the thought of them inviting me to go watch. I had so much work in the tent, I couldn't go. I paid no attention to this Captain America. He was into Showbiz and I was into hard labor. After stitching up a few soldiers I was wiping my stain bloody hands on my nurse coat. I could hear the applause from a few yards away. I sighed deeply hoping that the girls enjoyed the show. They needed a break. They've seen too much the medical field. They tried their best and worked hard. Most of them read all the books I brought and were rereading them in fact.
I could hear one of our medical cars rolling up to our tent. They honked loudly as a few nurse return to the tent. The medical staff were helping some of the injured out as I stayed inside the tent preparing for the wave.
The girls and I stitched up about twenty men. I overheard one of the soldiers say they were from the one-o-seventh regiment. My heart skipped a beat. Then they said some of them were killed or captured. My heart sank to my stomach. If Bucky made it out alive he would have came straight to me like he always did after a mission. After taking care of those twenty men, I started cleaning up the tables and the supplies as the nurses escorted the disabled men toward thier sleeping tents.
"Willow?" I could hear a familiar male voice. One that should be in Brooklyn. I turn on my heels. What should have been a skinny, pale, wimpy young boy stood before me a strong, tall, built man. A young woman decked out in World War II uniform stood beside him. From the information that I receive she was agent Carter.
"Steve?" I step forward setting down a syringe. My eyes teared up. He nods his head as he rushes over to me. I wrap my arms around his neck with me on my tippy toes. There's no way in possible.
"I can't believe it. How? What happened to you?" I pull away wiping the tears.
"I was lab rat. I'm strong and fast. Im Captain America. Here I am." He smiles. Oh god, he's Captain America.
"If only Bucky was here." My smile fades.
"He didn't make it back." Steve tells me as I shake my head.
"I know. I heard the other soldiers saying he was either captured or dead. I know the chances of him being alive out there." I calm my self down.
"I'm going to go get him and the rest of one-o-seventh. Don't worry." He says.
"No, I can't lose you too. Steve, please." I begged as he hugs he lightly.
"I have to get him. That's why I'm here. I'll come back don't worry. I promise." Steve says.
"So did Bucky. He promised too." I could feel the tears develop in my eyes. I can't lose both my boys. Can't do that.
"He's coming back. I'm coming back. You have to be strong. You're doing good right now. I'm so proud of you." He tells me. I wipe the tears away and pull away from the hug.
"We have to get going." Agent Carter tells him.
"I'm taller than you." Steve says. I couldn't help but laugh. It was true, he was taller than me now. Back when he was wimpy Steve I was taller then him.
"You sure are." I smiled lightly but he could see the hurt in my eyes.
"I'll be back in a few days." He kisses my forehead and takes off. Please dear lord, let my boys come back safe to me.
