***Lucy***
We had just arrived at the house. Just a simple case, supposed to be a Lurker I think. But no, knowing our luck it was obviously much, much more. I had the skull weighing down my backpack. Also, I had my duffel bag filled with any supplies we needed.
We knocked on the door. A young woman, maybe in her mid-twenties, answered it. She had dark hair and blue eyes. Her name was Ms. Martins. Something about this house seemed familiar... but I just ignored the thought.
*After the client has left*
We had just set up some circles with our iron chains (that Lockwood did not forget this time) when we noticed the temperature started to drop. And it kept dropping, very quickly.
Lockwood, George and I all got out rapiers at the ready and stepped inside the circle. I could.make out a faint tapping and a whisper from far off. I closed my ears, focusing on the paranormal phenomena going on around me. Lucy! Great! Now the skull was trying to tell me something. "What?" I snapped back. Lucy, this isn't a type one. Ok, I'm I hearing this right. The skull, being helpful? Yeah right. "Ok, who are you and what have you done with the real skull?" Oh, I get it. You don't want my help. That's fine! But don't say I didn't warn you! Once the skull had shut up, I focused on the whispering.
I probably looked like an idiot, standing there, in pitch black, trying to make out what the ghost was saying. Carlyle... Wait, did I hear what I think I just heard? I listened again. Madeline Carlyle... That ghost was whispering my Nan's name. "Lockwood, I think there's something you should know."
"What's the matter, Luce?"
"I think we should leave." I now knew why this place seemed so familiar. Before I could explain to Lockwood, in came our ghost. Carter Carlyle, my grandfather. My misery must've shown because Lockwood walked over and asked, "Lucy, what's wrong?"
"Lockwood, we have to leave. Now!"
"Why? Luce, what's going on? Are you ok?"
"I-I'm fine Lockwood... I just can't do this. That's... the ghost.. he's..." a tear rolled down my cheek, "He's my grandfather." Lockwood didn't say anything. What was there to say really. Instead, he wrapped his arms around me, giving me a hug. I didn't care how inappropriate this was, considering our situation. He whispered in my ear, "It's ok, Luce. Everything will be ok. Let's find a way out of here."Finding a way out was easier said than done. Turns out, my Grandad was a Type 2. Of course he was! Oh, and guess what else! He was blocking the only door out of the room. Great! For a while, we stood in our circle until I realised something.
"Lockwood, George. There's a window there."
"Yes, Lucy, I'm pretty sure we all noticed the window!" George replied.
"Well," I continued, "Before we left, Didn't Ms. Martins mention that she left all the doors and windows unlocked. Meaning-"
"Meaning we can climb out of the window! Lucy you're a genius!" Lockwood finished. I felt my cheeks burn. Typical, I was blushing. Ooh! Did Lockwood complement you, Lucy. Oh no! Now you're really embarrassed, and probably blushing! Am I right? I bet I'm right! Stupid skull! I just ignored it.We decided how we were to open the window without getting ghost-touched. Lockwood has already experienced that once, I won't let it happen again! So George and I were setting up another circle while Lockwood was keeping an eye on my ghostly Grandpa. Once that was done, we all stepped inside it. I was the one in charge of opening the window.
The window was very stiff, and it took me a good 15 minutes to get it open. And apparently that was too long. By time I get it open and look around, I see that both George and Lockwood had stepped out of the circle to ward of the ghost, but they were struggling. Even for Lockwood, it was hard to dodge the quick grasps from the ghost. So, like any stupid person would do, I decided to help. I took out my rapier and swiftly made my way over to the boys.
With my rapier, I made complex patterns to keep my Grandfather away. "Guys, the window's open. Go, now!"
"Lucy, I can't leave you to fend for yourself against a ghost!" Lockwood argued.
"I'll be right behind you." He seemed more worried than usual.
"Promise?" he asked me.
"Promise." I told him, "Now, GO!" This time, he did as I said.He and George made for the window. When they reached the circle, I started making my way over, too. However, I wasn't escaping that easily. The ghost had recovered and was closing in. Fast. I needed to hurry. I started to run towards the window. Just as I was climbing through, I felt a cold grasp on my arm, sending a sinister chill through my whole body. I turn to see the ghost of my deceased Grandfather, his arm outstretched, clamping my arm. I had been ghost-touched.
When I got out, I found out that Lockwood and George had set up another circle outside. My arm was turning a purple-ish blue, and Lockwood noticed almost immediately. "Oh my god, Lucy! What happened? Your arm! You were ghost-touched, weren't you!?" There was no hiding this from him.
He called DEPRAC and they arrived soon after. Lockwood wouldn't leave me, constantly checking that I was ok, asking if I needed anything.
My arm was treated and they told me I'd be fine. Once we were finally left alone, I asked Lockwood, "Why are you so worried about me? I'm not anything special." I was expecting something like, "You're my friend, Luce, of course I'd be worried about you!". But instead Lockwood replied, "Luce, I don't care what you say, and don't try to argue with me, but you are special. You're the most amazing person I've ever met. And I, erm I-"
"Lockwood?" he took in a deep breath and said to me, "I love you, Lucy Carlyle."
"Well that's good, isn't it, because I love you, too." He gave me the biggest smile I'd ever seen, even for him. And next thing I know, he kneeled on the floor and asked me, in the most embarrassing way possible, "Lucy Carlyle, will you do me the honour of becoming my girlfriend?"
"Yes, as long as you don't embarrass me like that ever again!" I said as I ruffled his hair.
"Well, I can't make any promises, can I?" he replied playfully. So, that may not have been throat successful case we'd ever had, but it was definitely the best night of my life!
