Oakley's POV

The moment Ashley left my room for breakfast a week ago was when I begun to severely break down. Every inch of my body was aching in pain, and it would only get worse from there on out. Ashley did return to beating me up after breakfast, and it was vert unpleasant. The scar on my stomach had reopened, and she instantly figured it out after seeing some blood stains on my shirt. So, Ashley decided to give me a few extra kicks right in the center of the opened scar.

At this point I don't care if Lin saves me or not, because I wouldn't change, I'd still be me: Oakley. Bruised, weak Oakley. Ugly, fat Oakley. Cowardly orphan Oakley. I would be pitied at the Rodgers; the cast would only be nice and loving towards me because of what I've been through.

I've been awake all night for multiple reasons. I'm terrified that Ashley will hurt me while I'm sleeping, so I decided to stay up in order to avoid said event. I also really enjoy watching the sunrise, it's the only thing I have to admire. Not only that, but watching it somehow calms me down and helps soothe my anxiety. Whether it's the warm red or the faded purple, seeing the entire event makes all the difference. It allows me to feel like maybe, just maybe, something good will rise upon my horizon, too.

My eyes begin to get heavy, and I start to fall asleep. I allow myself to lay down in bed, convinced I'll be able to stay awake. Wrong. A blanket of tiredness soon wraps around me, and I drift off at ease.

Lin's POV

Once I finish my pancakes of love, I get three plates out of the cabinet and place a few cakes on each of them. I get the butter and syrup out of the fridge, along with the silverware and napkins out of one of our drawers. After everything is all set, I place all of the plates and breakfast toppings on the table, then call in the rest of the Mirandas.

Soon enough, Sebastian comes running in and hops onto one of the chairs. He digs into his pancakes with no hesitation. My lovely wife joins us after a few minutes, and I ask,

"What time is Oakley's social worker coming?"

"I believe around two, so we have another two hours to tidy everything up and get dressed into more presentable clothing. She'll go over what they found when doing our background checks, do one final check on the house, go through one last interview with us, and make sure we remember everything from training. If all goes well, we'll be licensed." she replies with a smile.

"So, will we be able to pick Oakley up tonight, or is that something for tomorrow?" I ask in hopes of picking her up tonight. The sooner she gets out of there, the better.

"As long as we become licensed at our meet with her social worker, we can go whenever we'd like. I feel sick to my stomach when I think about how she's feeling right now; I don't have high hopes about it, Lin. I hope she's okay." Vanessa replies, earning a nod of agreement from me.
