Oakley's POV
"Alright alright everyone, I'm gonna need you to calm down for a few minutes!" Lin yells towards everyone, who turn their heads in our direction.
"We have a special guest here who's joining the HamFam, you wanna introduce yourself?" Lin asks me.
"Hey everyone, I'm Oakley. I, uh, I'm an orphan just like Hamilton, if you were wondering why I'm here. Anthony you already know me, and same with you guys." I finish, looking over at Lin and Thayne.
"Awe, you're adorable! Do you have any nicknames you like to go by?" Elizabeth asks me. As I'm about to tell her the nickname I've been given, Thayne beats me to it.
"Lin calls her Oak, but I call her Oaky. One, because it's cute. Two, because it might get confusing between her and the other Oak."
"Oaky? Like, the Hokey Pokey?" Alysha asks Thayne, starting to do the hokey pokey dance. I let out a chuckle, then ask,
"Do any of you guys know if there's any places around here that will hire a fourteen year old? I'm a little short on clothes."
"No need for a job, kiddo, Old Man Miranda's got you covered. He knows all of the hip trends and such," Lin replies, pointing finger guns at me.
"Until you go shopping, you can borrow some of my clothes. C'mere, I'll let you pick an outfit for the day!" Alysha says, motioning me towards her. I follow her all the way to her dressing room, where she opens a closet full of some cute clothes.
"I always keep extra outfits here. I couldn't tell you why, but I just do. Pick one out, and then I'll do your hair makeup! I'm so glad we have another girl here to keep me company when everyone else goes on stage!" She says excitedly. I look through her neatly hung outfits in awe, before choosing a pair of short overalls and a white tee shirt with thin black stripes. I take off my sneakers but keep on my socks, since that's what everyone else is already doing. Alysha leaves the room while I change, but once I'm done, she comes back in and lets out a squeal.
"I just met you twenty minutes ago and I already love you. Now, sit down on this chair, and I'll give you my signature look for when I go on as Eliza." She says, patting the seat. I sit down and realize how disgusting I look right now, but hopefully Alysha can change that. She turns the chair around because she says that she wants to do a, "big reveal," and then begins.
Alysha starts by doing my hair, which she brushes out before straightening it. I'm half Mexican, so my hair gets to be rather wavy and curly. Once she's done with that, the puts my hair into high double buns. After using lots of bobby pins to make sure my bun holds, Alysha starts my makeup. She takes a bunch of different products out of her vanity drawer, then pauses.
"I have to run over to the women's ensemble dressing room, I don't have any foundation, concealer, or powder in your shade. Be right back girly!" She says, rushing out of the room. Within a matter of minutes, Alysha comes back into the room with a few different items in hand.
"Alright, this is gonna be a little bit of trial and error. It might take a little longer than I would usually need, but, I want to get your shade right." She explains, as she starts swatching a few different foundations on my neck so that she can find the closest shade to my skin tone.
Alysha eventually found the one that was closest, and wiped off all of the swatches. She moisturized my face before she went to the women's ensemble dressing room, so now she's priming my face. Once she finishes with the primer, she has to run to the bathroom to wet her beauty blender. After what seemed like hours of sitting in this chair, Alysha tells me to close my eyes for the "big reveal."
"Okay, on three, you can uncover your eyes." She says, as she turns me towards the mirror.
"One... two... three!" She lets out an excited squeal as I uncover my eyes in shock.
"Wow, I don't know what to say. I feel... pretty. I haven't felt pretty in awhile. Thanks Alysh," I say, giving her a big hug.
"Of course lil' sis! Yep, I'm calling you that from now on. I think we should show the rest of the cast, do you want to?" She asks. I give her a nod, and we head back to the stage.
"Presenting to you, Miss Oakley Miranda!" Alysha announces, carelessly interrupting Lin talking to the cast. Everyone turns their head to see me awkwardly playing with the pockets of these short overalls.
"This, this is what Hamilton felt for Philip, isn't it? Look at my daughter everyone!" Lin exclaims happily. I let out a chuckle and give him a side hug.
"You look beautiful, Oak, and I'm sorry if it was too soon for me to call you my daughter." He says, rubbing my back.
"You're fine, Lin, you really are. Thank you." I say, earning a few "awes" from the cast.
"So, I take it that you've found another honorary sibling?" Lin asks me, referring to Alysha.
"Yep! The family tree keeps growing." I say with a smile.
Out of nowhere, Thayne starts to lecture me about men and being careful. Weird, I always thought Lin and Groff would be the ones to do that.
"You see Oakley, men are weird. We're really fun, but, we're weird when it comes to love. You have to find the right one for you, and one who won't force you to do anything that's... you know... Lin?"
Lin comes over, confused, and Thayne whispers to him what he's doing. Lin's eyes go wide, and then he begins,
"Oakley, darling, when a man and a woman-"
"I know, I know, they have a fun pillow fight. I learned about the process of mitosis and meiosis in sixth grade, and decision making in health every year, Lin." I say. Lin and Thayne start laughing for a reason I'm unaware of.
"'A fun pillow fight,' oh that's a good one," Lin carries on, as he laughs hysterically with Thayne for a little while.
Alysha and I start laughing at how hard they're laughing, and we all eventually run out of breath. Once the cast starts rehearsing, Alysha and I go out to brunch and share funny stories until the show later on.
