Oakley's POV
As I slowly make my way into Lin's apartment, I examine my surroundings. Everything from family pictures to awards are placed on the walls and bookcases. I follow Lin to the kitchen because he wants me to stay hydrated and drink some more water.
I take a sip of the ice cold water, then hear footsteps coming closer and closer to the kitchen. Vanessa walks in, looking stunning, and gives Lin a kiss on the cheek. She approaches me, the shy looking orphan who just took a sip of water, with a big smile on her face.
"Hi Oakley, I'm so happy to meet you. My name's Vanessa," She says, holding her arms open. I give her a hug, and she gives me a little pat on the head.
"Our son Sebastian is asleep right now, but I'm sure he'll want to see you once he wakes up tomorrow. Why don't you come sit down?" She asks, leading me to the family room. I hesitantly sit down on the couch, Vanessa to my right.
"Alright, I'm not sure if you have a lot of clothing, but I'll take you out to get a new wardrobe anytime you want. We're so happy to have you here, sweetie." Vanessa says kindly. I'm not shocked at how nice she is, since I didn't expect her to be mean, but I'm shocked at how giving her and Lin are both being.
"You guys are too nice, I don't want you to use your money on me. You're already providing a roof over my head." I say. Lin lets out a chuckle from behind me, which was slightly startling considering I didn't know he was there.
"Kiddo, you have a few shirts and some pants and one outfit from Alysha, clothing is a necessity. V will take you shopping whenever, and you can bring Alysha if you want." He says, giving me a pat on the back.
"I guess I'm not getting out of this, so whenever works for you Vanessa, I'll go." I say, beginning to yawn.
Lin sees me starting to fall asleep, so he picks me up and carries me to what I assume is my room. He tosses my pajamas onto the bed,, then plants a kiss on my forehead.
"Buenas noches, mi amor, dulces sueños." He whispers, then slowly walks out. After I get in my pajamas, I get comfortable in my queen sized bed. The last thing I hear is the honking of a vehicle, which is probably a taxi, and Lin squealing about something from the kitchen.
I wake up to a strong scent pouring into my room, and someone lightly tapping my shoulder. I open my eyes and turn to my right to see a young boy's messy hair, hiding next to my bed.
"It's okay buddy, you don't have to hide." I say, assuming it's Sebastian. He slowly stands up, then holds out a train.
"You wanna play with me?" He asks softly. I give him a nod, then chase him until we're in the kitchen.
"Morning Oak, how'd you sleep?" Lin asks, as he frantically flips a pancake, then flips another on a separate pan.
"Pretty good, but, what's the hassle?" I ask, trying not to laugh at his cooking.
"What? Oh! Oh, me. You see, I have rehearsal in less than an hour and I'm trying to speed cook for the family. It's an occasional thing." He says, starting to cook some potatoes. Sebastian comes over and taps my leg with his train, signaling me to come play with him.
"I see Sebastian has found you. Seb, this is Oakley, your new sister." He tells the young child, who's insistent for me to play trains with him. I follow him to the family room, where he has a bunch of train tracks and different trains set up. I don't really know how he plays this game, so I kind of just improvise. Eventually, Lin calls us to the kitchen for breakfast. As I sit down at the table, Lin starts babbling on about the plan for today.
"Alright, I'm going to a last minute rehearsal for the ensemble, but V is taking off from work today so you can get some clothes. Alysha will be here in twenty minutes with a few others, it'll be great." I slowly nod as if I comprehended everything he just said, then finish eating my pancake and potatoes. I clean up after myself and Seb, then head to my room to get ready.
Lin put my few bags of stuff in my room last night, so it's a matter of me unpacking it. I put my few outfits in the closet, then put on the outfit from yesterday that Alysha let me borrow. I brush my hair out and wash my face in hopes of not looking like a mess. I definitely don't feel clean, but at least I look like it.
Soon enough, I hear a knock on the front door. I hear Lin open it up, then see a bunch of girls walking towards me.
"Hey Oak!" Alysha says, giving me a hug. I feel her put something on my head, and I pull away confusedly.
"What is this?" I say, taking the hat off of my head.
"It's a hat, duh!" She replies with a chuckle.
"I know that, I mean, who's it for?" I ask, not sure if she's giving me this hat.
"It's for you! See, it says 'Oaky Pokey' on the front!" Alysha points out.
"It's so cute, thanks Lysh!" I say, putting it back on.
"Alright, with me I have Pippa, Renée, and Jazzy. They're coming shopping with us!" She says, introducing me to everyone else. To be honest, I knew their names before she even introduced them, but I didn't want to seem like a Smart Alec. We all sit down in the family room, then Vanessa joins us.
"Alright girls, you ready?" She asks as she grabs her purse. We all give her excited nods, then prance out of the apartment like children that we really are.
"Bye Lin! Bye Seb!" I call out as I close the door behind me. We head to the parking garage, then figure out seating. Alysha drove her car here, which only has four extra spots. Pippa and Jazzy go with Alysha, and Renée and I go with Vanessa.
We drive off into the busy New York streets singing any song that comes on the radio. Renée and I start to battle each other in karaoke, earning laughs from Vanessa. Even though it's barely even started, today is one of the best days I've ever lived.
