Next day at school,
"Lee, it was nothing of that sort." Ron was trying to calm her down. She was strolling on the gallery on her way to the next class. Ron had to literally run to catch up and keep pace.
In no way was she ready to turn around and forgive Ron. And the reason being that he didn't pay attention to her while she was on the phone. Ah!
Further, it didn't help either that he was awake all night, thinking about Eleanor.
Ah, that girl!
"Then what was it?" She screamed, "You have never acted that way, hun." Suddenly she was all soft and mourning.
"I am sorry, I was just tense." Ron replied, trying hard not to think about the reason for that.
"And what for?" Leona asked.
Ron told her about Eleanor. Everything except the fact that she was all he thought about now, that she was really beautiful, that he held her hand in the park to pick her up, and that he never wanted to leave that hand.
Seemed like he had edited and omitted a lot of the parts. Boy!
"Leona, when she came to my house, she was covered in blood. Her clothes were torn. What was I supposed to think?" He said, "I don't know what possibly happened to her."
Leona seemed to be thinking about it for a few secs.
"Ron," she finally said, "you were really drunk that day. I think you were just hallucinating...and really badly!" She tried to show a sympathetic face.
"Oh really!" Ron said, running to get face to face with her, "then what about the time when we met at the park...I wasn't drunk at the time...I couldn't always be hallucinating."
"You met her..." Lee's voice fell down at once, she seemed hurt, "in the park?"
Oh! Right. He hasn't told her about the park incident.
"Oh...I was...no, that was not-"
"Enough! Will you please shut up?"
"Hey Lee. That...that was an accident. I was helping her, Lee."
"Really, accidents don't happen in parks. They happen," she pointed to where her heart is, "they happen here." Was all she said.***
Ron was just looking at his books, trying to figure out his extra bulky homework, when the doorbell rang.
"Ron!" Ron's mum shouted from the main door, "I am back, sweetie."
Ron went downstairs running, and hugged his mum.
"Hey, mum." He greeted her.
"Where is dad?"
"He just stopped round the corner to buy some wine. He won't take too long to come."
Ron nodded.
"How was it honey? Did you have fun? Did you bring Leona over?" Ron's mum teased him.
"Nope, mom." Ron grunted. "This is nothing like that."
She sniggered. "You don't need to hide things from me, child. I know. The way you look at Leona in not normal. And the way she looks at you is... Well, paranormal. Just tell me you know the precautions if you brought her over, right?"
Could there be seriously a mother in the world like this?
Ron flushed hot red.
"Mom what do you mean. I get it that Leona is my girlfriend... But there isn't that kind of things between us. We haven't even really frenched." Ron never felt like hiding anything from his mother. She could be his best friend. And he loved her.
"Huh... Then what do you two do? I guess you are just a boring couple."
"Ah, I guess we were."
"What do mean 'were'... Honey?"
"It's just that, she keeps on fighting madly and currently we are not even talking. She dissed me in the school today...I think I am just waiting for an official announcement, from her side, of our breakup." He didn't seem happy to say that.
"Oh, sweetheart... Just keep yourself together."
He nodded. Oh course, he needed to keep himself together. As long as he has got another thing to solve. Another one to care about.
Eleanor...***
Ron sat on his bed, staring hard at his phone. He hadn't received a single call from Leona. How could she act like that?
He heaved a painful sigh.
This was so not like her. She never used to get mad at him and even if she did, that was a matter of a few minutes when she called back.
He tried to call her but every single time the call went to voice mail.
He hated that.
