Ron dozed off on the couch besides  active Heather and her active boyfriend. And still they were mostly quite through out the night, for which Ron was grateful.
He went back to his home in the morning.
On his way to his room, he heard his mother chirping excitedly over the phone. There was no one else in the world besides him and his dad to whom she may talk like that.

He waited for her to put the phone down.
'Morning!' he said. Through a mind full of mysteries, he managed to sound excited.
'You drunk last night.'
It was a difficult statement. Not exactly a statement, but a question. And then, not a true question for that matter. It was something over the brink. Something that could get him in trouble. It depended on his reply. If he said yes, that definitely was a question and he was grounded for drinking. But if he acted ignorant and just said what, then it was definitely a statement. And she already knows. And he would still be grounded for lying.
Damn it was a trap.
So he just played it safe. Hung his head so low, the chin almost touched the throat. Making no sound.
Martha sighed. "I am not going to tolerate this, little boy." She said through pursed lips.
He nodded.
After the awkward quiet, Ron decided to make it up.
"Was that dad?"
He pointed to the phone.
"Uh? Yeah. He was."
"Is everything ok?"
"More than. He is coming back!"
Ron's dad worked at Fairbanks. And visited barely. He would say that sometimes he missed his dad. But that sometimes was hardly ever. His mom was enough for him. Being both the parents alone.
"He just left last Sunday. How can he get a holiday so soon?"
"He didn't. He has been shifted here. So he can stay with us now!"
"Wow, that is so cool." Ron exclaimed.
"I know." She smiled.
This must be the reason that she forgot about grounding Ron for drinking.
