Have You Heard From Him?

Ricky looked at the passenger door in disbelief, then to Rosie who was now half creeping next to the car he had now parked behind.  He watched as as she peered around the car, before standing up properly and dashing across the road to the van. Ricky looked again; there was no one inside as he'd said. Rosie disappeared out of sight for a moment, before reappearing outside a door of what must be her house.  It was then, a man who must have been Lee, stood up from the steps in front of the house.

Ricky hadn't really thought about what Lee would look like. The thought had simply never occurred to him. But curiosity had now got the better of him and he was surprised by the man that he saw. His first thought,  Shaggy! The man looked like some human version of the cartoon character. He was tall, taller than Ricky by at least three or four inches. His dusty blonde hair seemed shapeless around his head. No this wasn’t the man he would have envisaged Rosie with in a million years.

He knew he should drive away and not ogle at the scene in front of him, but he wanted to watch.  He wanted to see how this man greeted Rosie. If only he could have heard what he was saying to her.

"You look a right state!  Where have you been?" Lee asked looking Rosie up and down as she appeared in front of him.

"Jogging!" she told him as if it was her most normal pass time.

Lee laughed, "How far did you get? To the park gates?" He laughed at his own joke.

Rosie didn't. With a sullen face, she looked at him. "I'm just trying to do something different!" She fished around in the belt she'd strapped under her top for her key. "How come you are here?" she asked taking the key out and casually looking in the direction of where she knew Ricky's car still stood. She could see him watching.

"Mike cancelled on me. I thought we'd spend the evening together instead, " he told her, completely unaware of the eyes upon them.

Rosie put the key in the lock and opened the door. She stood to one side allowing Lee to pass. "What if I was going out?" she questioned him.

"You're not are you?" he queried.

"No but that's not the point!"  Lee had stopped in front of her in the doorway.

He suddenly wrapped his arms around her waist and nuzzled at her neck. "We could have a shower together." Rosie shuddered inwardly at his touch.

They suddenly turned at the sound of the roar of an engine as a blue car sped past Rosie's house travelling far too fast over the speed bumps.

"Nob!" Lee shouted after the car and went indoors. Rosie watched the car break sharply at the end of the road, then disappear around the corner. With a sinking feeling, she stepped into the house and shut the door.

________

"These are too short!" Lee appeared out of the changing room. Rosie couldn't help but laugh. "This is ridiculous,"  he moaned, picking up each foot in turn and looking at his ankles. "I'm getting pissed off now."
He disappeared back behind the curtain.

"You shouldn't be so tall!" Rosie called after him. She was getting fed up now too. They still hadn't found anything for Lee to wear to the christening they were going to the following day. And to be honest, Rosie's heart wasn't in it anyway. She'd not been able to get Ricky out of her head all day. He hadn't contacted her and she was too scared to contact him. Lee had spent the night at hers and unusually,  he hadn't fallen asleep on the sofa as he usual would. Rosie hadn’t dared to text Ricky just in case Lee had seen a reply or asked who she was texting.  She was also worried that Ricky was angry at her for how she'd just got out of his car yesterday. She was scared that was the reason why he hadn’t contacted her.
