"Okay, everyone!" Aunt Marie announced, standing in the mid of the dance floor with a microphone in her hand. "It's time for birthday cake!"

All the kids began to squeal in an utmost ebullience and began to gather around on the dancing area where the cake would be presented. With this huge amount of kids accumulating around where we were standing currently, Luke held my hand and hauled me out of this hall instantly without letting his aunt knew that we were going to leave.

I really wanted to get the hell out of this place but at the same time, I wanted to know how did Brooke get invited to this party loaded with mentally deranged human beings. And how in the world did she know that guy who I surmised, Ronald's brother?

"Where are we going?" I asked as we were about to reach the entranceway.

"We're leaving," Luke stated seriously. "I've had enough of this party and I don't need anymore interruption from that old prick's family members."

The moment we stepped out of this giant mansion, I saw a teenage girl with her hair tied in a bun, standing six feet away from us, exhaling the smoke from her mouth with a lighted cigarette when Luke demanded the valet to get his car.

She looked...I don't know, like Amy Winehouse when she was depressed?

"It's already half past eleven now. Are you sure your dad will be okay with this?" Luke glanced at his wristwatch.

I didn't reply his question since I was too busy staring at the messed-up looking girl, trying to figure out her identity. I knew I was nowhere near professional at psychology but the vibe she was having right now was something I could tell that she was striving against the monster in her head.

"Cheesecake?" Luke frowned at me before his eyes followed my gaze. When he realised that I had been keeping my eyes on that girl for a few minutes now, I could hear he was muttering something under his breath while throwing his head back in frustration briefly, "Fuck. Why is she here?"

Abruptly, Donovan gripped my arm and pulled me to the side, so that I was standing on the other side of him with his body blocking the view of that girl.

"Don't look at her," he whispered with his hands holding my forearms.

"Why?" I argued.

"Just don't—"

"Luke?" The girl called out his name just right when Luke's car came arrived in the driveway.

"Perfect timing," Luke mumbled before he grasped my hand and marched me towards his car then shoved me into the passenger seat before he shut the door.

Something fishy was going on here.

"Did you know her?" I inquired as soon as he got into the driver seat beside me and drove off the driveway without glancing back at that girl whom was staring at us in confusion.

"No," Donovan uttered flatly.

"It seems to me you're lying," I said, badly wanting to know who was she.

"I don't want to talk about it," his eyes were obviously scared to look at mine.

And in that moment, I knew he was hiding the truth.

"You told me that I can ask you any questions tonight," I reminded him.

"But I didn't say that I will answer every single one of them, right?" Luke glanced at me furiously.
