<Brontë's p.o.v.>
We missed breakfast again. This time, Caroline didn't even care. Instead, we went out for brunch where Caroline couldn't stop eyeing her phone.
"They'll let us know when we can meet up again. Stop worrying."
"I can't. I'm afraid they'll soon have had enough of us. We've been there for two days already."
I understood her insecurity. I felt it too. After all, we were just two fans like the thousands upon thousands they had already met and hundreds of thousands that they hadn't. They were in no way complied to hang out with us.
"I know, but I really believe they'll at least let us know something."
We had no other choice but to hope. I had really started to take a liking in Niall and I hoped he had too in me. The day past uneventful, as we didn't want to go too far from the hostel. We went out shopping and visiting another museum. Around 5 pm, Caroline had had enough of shopping and museums, so we returned to our rooms. We put the Up All Night album on repeat. Caroline kept bringing up the dinner Niall and I had.
"Okay, so if you both didn't think it was a date, in his and your eyes, you're still supposed to have a first date, right?"
"Nothing points to that though."
"Your spontaneous date did."
The conversation had gone in similar circles, until I just went with it.
"Okay fine, so we are still supposed to have a first date, should there ever be the time or interest."
"Interest on his part, right?"
"Obviously. I'd say yes to a date with him in the blink of an eye, you know that."
She smiled. She did know.
"Alright. What if he'd ask you? Do you even have an appropriate outfit?"
"Probably. I mean, it depends on the kind of date, of course."
"Dinner is standard."
She waved it off nonchalantly and started checking which clothes I had with me.
"Since when is anything standard in dating?"
I had an amused smirk on my face.
"Since every story has at least one dinner date. It's the most convenient way to get to know someone: you both can't leave, silences can be filled with food and if it doesn't work out you still had dinner. I'm a writer, Brontë, I need to know these things."
She picked out a few pieces of clothing and laid them on the bed.
"If you say so! What are you doing with my clothes though?"
"I'm looking for an appropriate outfit should such a date present itself."
She smiled at me. Caroline was picking through my clothes to find me an outfit? Knowing her lack of fashion awareness, that was unusual. She read my skeptical look and rolled her eyes in return.
"I'm keeping myself busy. Amuse me."
I shook my head but helped her out anyway.
"If we're doing this for me, we'll be doing this for you too."
She gave me a pained face, but I persuaded her with threatening to stop choosing an outfit, knowing she'd be quite lost on her own with my clothes. She gave in and got out some of her potential outfits. Dressing ourselves up was actually becoming the main activity and we were enjoying ourselves with it, taking silly pictures in the process. Caroline had gone as far as dressing us in an outfit completed with accessories, make-up, shoes, and a vest. It looked as if we were ready to go out. Instead, we took silly pictures with our webcam, applying multiple filters, making us laugh until we cried.
"Okay, we look great."
"We do! It's a pity we not actually going out."
"Yeah."
She sighed.
"You know what? Let's walk around the block, pretending we are. Let's show the world how pretty we look tonight!"
She gave me a wink.
"Are you serious?"
"Yeah, absolutely!"
She grabbed her jacket, put it on and handed me mine.
"Are you sure?"
She wasn't usually so keen on going outside to show off any prettiness.
"Amuse me!"
"Alright then! Let's go!"
Walking downstairs I saw her text.
"Who is it?"
She looked up surprised.
"Zayn. He texted me to say that he's sorry we didn't get to hang out today but that they want to see us again soon."
"Oh okay. That's great though. It shows they haven't gotten over us yet, doesn't it?"
She smiled widely.
"I hope not!"
It was dusk outside. Caroline held the door open for me.
"Wow, such service."
She snorted. We started walking arm in arm on the sidewalk. We were acting silly, pretending we were flirtatious or drunk or celebrities. We had to stifle our laughs as we walked past people giving us strange glances. We usually didn't do those kinds of things. We were generally reserved and quite invisible. It was a new experience and I was glad to share it with my best friend. When we neared the hostel, I realized what the whole night had been for. Caroline hadn't been merely bored, she had been planning. A black car stood in front of the hostel. Leaning against it was someone familiar waving our way. He gave me a toothy grin when we stood in front of him.
"You look beautiful",Niall said and I smiled in astonishment as he hugged me.(a),n=̼_ߤ
