It was getting dark and cold, but it didn't bother me nearly as much as it should have. My night was unforgettable. I couldn't stop smiling. Niall had draped his arm on my shoulder as we walked back to my hostel room.
"Well, this is me."
"I know, apart from wanting to stay with you for as long as possible, I have something to pick up here."
I frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"You look so cute when you're confused."
He hugged me and pressed his lips on mine once again. Without thinking, I put my arms around his neck. We deepened the kiss. I completely forgot where I was, what I was thinking, what my name was...
"Wo-ho!"
We immediately stopped and looked around confused. I blushed as I saw Caroline, Zayn, and Harry standing in our room with the door open. They were cheering and applauding.
"What are you guys doing here?"
"Well, since Niall, Liam, and Louis all decided to go on dates tonight, the loners united. Plus, Niall wanted Caroline to have some company as she helped him out incredibly."
"I didn't do that much. I just made sure she was ready."
"Well, it's not like any of us could have done that."
"Since when did you know, Caroline?"
"Sometime after brunch."
"How could you not tell me anything?"
"Well, that was part of my job. I had to make sure you were dressed nicely, we were outside the hostel at seven pm and that it was all a surprise."
"What else are you hiding from me?", I said with a smile.
"Nothing! I wouldn't dare!"
"Apparently you do, actually."
She shot a glance at Zayn, but immediately couldn't hide her smile.
"You're not helping me."
Zayn grinned in reply.
"No! She wouldn't dare!
We laughed about it.
"Well, I don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but shouldn't we be going? I mean, it's already late and tomorrow we got to get up early for a recording session."
"You have recordings tomorrow? Why didn't you say so! Well, it's not like I want you all to leave, but Harry's right."
Niall realized our point and sighed, before giving me a firm goodbye kiss.
"Goodnight", I whispered.
He gave me a small kiss before mumbling the same in reply. I hugged Zayn and Harry goodbye too. Niall sneaked in a kiss on the cheek before he was pulled back by the guys.
"Come on Niall, you had your goodbye."
"Bye guys!"
Caroline and I waved as the boys got out of sight. I stared at the corner where they disappeared behind. I felt Caroline pulling me inside.
"I need details!"
I needed a minute to let the I whole night sink in. After told her my story and she told hers, I found out that the reason our hostel room smelled like pizza, was because they had in fact eaten pizza. I couldn't believe that I didn't come up with that answer myself. My mind was still too blank to properly think. Caroline told me Harry had told the joke about 'why did the mushroom go to the party?'. She couldn't remember much of the other things they did. She was too surprised to see Niall and me kissing in front of the door.
"So... What are you now?"
"What do you mean?"
"You and Niall, are you dating? I mean, sure you kissed and had a first official date," to which she squealed shortly, "but are you actually going out like boyfriend and girlfriend?"
"I don't know... I mean, we're not official, that's for sure, and I don't know if we're going on more dates, even though tonight was great."
I smiled at the memory, though I couldn't help but wonder what Niall had in mind for us. I hadn't thought about what we were. Hell, it had never been a concern of mine, until Caroline awoke the doubting part within me.
"Do you love him?"
I looked at her with an eyebrow raised in confusion. She took it as a sign to elaborate.
"Do you want to spend your life with him? Do you have the feeling it would literally break your heart if he rejected you now? Do you-"
"Caroline, I have no idea. I know I like him. That's a fact. I just don't know if what I'm feeling is love. My mind is still somewhat blown away from my date. Let's just go to bed."
Her face of concern and curiosity fell to one of insecurity.
"Okay. It's just that your first love is said to be memorable, but the first heartbreak even more because the more you cared for and loved that person, the more painful their departure would be. I just don't want you to suffer from the latter."
She turned more silent saying that last sentence, with an added smirk. I think she was genuinely worrying about me. I gave her a hug for assurance and comfort, which she gladly returned. During our precious bonding moment, she started silently giggling.
"What?"
"I can smell him while hugging you."
Our chuckles lifted thetension somewhat.e enougн>Х
