Scott sighed as he packed away the year 9 test papers he had to get through this weekend. Why couldn't he be marking children's creative music instead of black and white tests. Unfortunately changing numbers into apples and a circle into a pie did not make maths interesting.
But what could he do?
Then he remembered the light at the end of his day. It was strange that, although he knew nothing about this man, he was the one person he looked forward to seeing everyday (even though the man never saw him).
As he walked past the cafes and shops that were beginning to close, the appearing stars glistened above him. He couldn't wait to hear the beautiful voice, he couldn't wait to just close his eyes and get lost in his thoughts. It was the only time of the day where he truly felt happy. In that moment there were no rude teenagers he had to teach, no colleges he had to pretend to like and no papers he had to mark. It was just music.
And then a silence overcame the town. There was no voice, no music....just silence. Where was he? The man who he watched from afar....
Scott saw his guitar but no man. Maybe he'd gone to get something to eat, or to the toilet, or something else.....
Then something caught his eye. A figure, standing on the bridge. It was dark so he could only make out the silhouette. Then the man was walking to the edge of the bridge.
Scott could only watch....
.....but then the man started to climb over the rail....
And scott couldn't help but run.
He had to stop this man, whoever he was, from making the biggest mistake you can make.
The man got his other leg over the rail......Scott had to hurry.
The man began to let go.
"Stop!" Scott yelled and reached out to grab the man's arm. "Don't jump.....please." He said softly.
The man turned his head around slowly, revealing a tear stained face and puffed up eyes. Scott did a double take. It was him; the man who played the guitar.
"It's you!" Scott covered his mouth as he realised he'd just blurted out. "Sorry!..... please come back over."
Mitch was confused. Why was this man stopping him? How did he know who he was? Why did he care?
"No...." Mitch croaked. "I-I......there's no reason for me to live..."
"Please." Scott begged. "Just come here." He held out his arms to help mitch over.
Mitch stared at him. Did he want to die? There was obviously some good in this world....this man had proved that.
"I- I have nothing....." he whispered.
"Neither do I!" Scott said desperately. "But I'm not hanging off a bridge!"
Mitch flinched at Scott's loud voice."Do you have a house?"
"Well-"
"Money?"
"I-"
"Clothes?!"
"No I-"
"Exactly! I have non of that! No family, friends, job, house. I have no life." Mitch shouted, his eyes brimming with tears again. "Just....leave me alone....please?"
"No..." Scott said firmly. "I refuse to let you jump. You have a reason to live. People listen to your music everyday. I listen to your music every day. It's the one thing that makes me happy. Please....you are so talented. Things will get better...I'll make sure they do I promise."
"That's a pretty big promise." Mitch said looking down.
"Well....do you want to see if I keep my promises?" Scott kept a firm grip on mitch's arm.
And it was as if mitch had come back to earth. He began to panic. He was hanging off the edge of a bridge. One wrong move and he'd be dead. He didn't want to die.
"P-please.....help me." He looked at Scott frantically.
"Calm down! It's ok." Scott began to help Mitch over the railing.
"One minute....it's gonna be-"
"Hurry." Mitch didn't want to die.
Crash! They fell to the concrete. Mitch on top of Scott.
"S-sorry." Mitch hurridely stood up and dusted himself off.
"It's ok.." Scott laughed and stood up.
"Y-you didn't have to do that..."Mitch said quietly. "Thanks...." he looked up to scott.....and that when he realised how beautiful he was. He was tall and muscular with blonde quiffed hair. His smile was gorgeous and his eyes glinted in the moonlight.
"You're welcome" Scott smiled. He stared at mitch. He was beautiful...and cute. He was small with hair sweeped across his face. His eyes, although rather red, we're still stunning and his smile made scott feel warm inside.
"I couldn't let you just end it all....." Scott said.
"Well....see you around..." Mitch said awkwardly.
"Wait.....what's your name?"
Mitch turns back and smiled. "Mitch, Mitch grassi."
"I like that name." Scott's comment made mitch blush. "I'm Scott, Scott Hoying."
And then Mitch was gone. Back to his section of cobbled path.
"I'll keep my promise." Scott shouted after him...and he meant it
