He had never told....

The days went by and Mitch didn't hear from Scott. Scott wanted to see Mitch, he wanted to rescue him from whatever trouble he'd got himself into but he didn't want Mitch to get hurt. He had to think about it before he went into Mitch's new "home" like a knight in shining armour. He didn't know if he could defeat "Gavin".

So life went on. Mitch's singing grew weaker and weaker as he slowly began to give up on "making things work".

"Why aren't you making as much money?" Josh moaned as he tried to count the few pennies they had received.

"You better up you game, Mitch. We are relying on you." Gavin snarled.

"Why don't you rely on someone else for a change? Or even better, sort yourself out." Mitch said sleepily.

"What did you just say?" Gavin headed towards Mitch who was sat with his back against the wall.

"I-I didn't mean it. .....sorry Gavin." Mitch said hurridely. He had had too many encounters with Gavin's fist already and would do anything to avoid it.

"You better be sorry you fag." Gavin grabbed Mitch's shirt and pulled him to his feet. Mitch flinched at his words; their effect never lessened.

"Gavin come on, not tonight." Ewan said wearily. "He's been through enough living with us." Mitch smiled at him gratefully.

"What? Are you on his side now?"

"It's not about sides Gav. It's about making the most of our situation."

"Oh shut up Ewan! You've been sticking up for him since he arrived. What? You're suddenly mates with fags like him?" Gavin pushed Mitch against the wall.

"P-please....I'll sing better." Mitch begged.

"Too right you will." Gavin dropped Mitch to the floor and he crawled away. He couldn't hold it in any longer. The tears poured down his face and his bodu couldn't stop shaking. He wanted Scott. ...so, so badly.

"Oh shut up for God's sake!" Gavin yelled. Mitch muffled his sobs with his sleeve but he couldn't stop crying.

He lay awake that night, gazing up at the stars above him. He couldn't take this any longer. He had to get out of here. He had to toughen up and stand up to Gavin....and he had to do it now. Everyone was asleep, all he had to do was walk away. Why was it such a hard thing to do?

He moved, quickly and quietly, creeping towards the crack in the wall. His heart pounding and his head spinning.

"Mitch?" He spun his head round and saw the glisten of open eyes coming from Ewan's corner.

"Urm..." Mitch began to panic, searching for excuses.

"You're leaving aren't you?" Ewan whispered.

"I-I didn't mean to-"

"Go Mitch. Just go." Ewan mustered a half hearted smile.

"Thank you." Mitch smiled. Then he was gone. Running down the road, guitar in hand, never looking back.

But where should to now? He came to the bridge and memories came back to him. Scott. This was where they first met. Where Scott saved Mitch. He had never told Scott this, but he had been saving him ever since. He was a constant reminder that someone cared about him, a constant reminder that not everyone in this world was a monster, a constant reminder of how good life can be.

That's when Mitch's passion cane back. He got the familiar urge to sing, to let all his emotions out.

.....

Scott was walking the streets, racking his brains, trying to think of some sort of plan to save mitch. How was he going to make him realise how much he cared?

He walked towards the bridge and the memories came flooding back. Meeting Mitch, stopping him from making the biggest mistake he could have ever made. He had never told Mitch this, but Mitch was what kept Scott going. Mitch inspired Scott, the way he kept fighting, continued doing what he loved even in his condition. His parents abandoned him, he had no home yet he still continued his passion. He made anything seem possible.

Then he heard that voice. That sweet, angelic, beautiful voice he knew so well.

I'm just a lost boy....

Scott sprinted to the bridge, desperate to know he was safe, to know he was free. He saw his silhouette, his arm gently strumming his guitar, his hair gently blowing in the wind. And he couldn't help but join in.

Not ready to be found.....

Their voices sounded perfect together.
