i cast one, swift glance only to be struck with another wave of dissapointment to find that Mark had not returned.  instead of  trying to pretend that this new lack of development does not affect me whatsoever, i just took the time to laugh at the thumbs up signs an loud cheers of encouragement David and Allen were throwing at me, from where they stood below the platform.

i took lungfuls of deep breath. and swallowed the to  extreme anxiety clawing in my throat. then waited for my opponent's first attack---which came rather quickly than i expected.

and also so i would be able to gather his footwork and determine whee his next attack would come from.
