CHAPTER TEN—MINA & KYLA
Aubrey didn’t come to school for three days. Mina felt terrible about what had happened. Shane had explained to Mina what happened and she believed him. Shane wasn’t a liar. That just wasn’t him.
Mina had been trying all week to get Aubrey to talk to him, to hear him out, but she refused to be in the same room as Shane unless she absolutely had to. Mina understood that she was hurt and angry, but avoiding him wasn’t going to fix things. But Aubrey was stubborn and it might take her awhile to actually loosen up. At some point, hopefully, she could get them together and force them to talk it out.
It was a Friday night now. She was in the car with Isaiah. They were on the way to his house to have a movie night. She’d been spending a lot of time with Isaiah lately. They slept together and cuddled just about every weekend. She was starting to like him. How could she not? He was so sweet. He was everything that anyone could ever want in a guy.
She wanted to tell Isaiah how she felt. Maybe he felt the same way. Maybe he didn’t. If he didn’t feel the same, Mina would be okay with that. You can’t get what you want all of the time, after all. But Mina wanted to get it off of her chest. Isaiah was her best friend. She could tell him anything. It shouldn’t be too hard. She’d tell him before they went to sleep.
Isaiah and Mina both got out of the car after he parked in the garage. The other car was there too, which meant that Sebastian was home. Another car that Mina wasn’t familiar with was also parked in front of the house.
Isaiah said, “That asshole is here.”
“Your mom’s fiancé?” she asked. Isaiah nodded and walked up to the car with a huge grin. “What are you thinking?”
“I’m gonna slash this fucker’s tires,” he said. “He won’t be Eva’s fiancé for long.”
“Do you really hate him that much?”
Isaiah nodded his head dramatically. “Um, yes. He’s not good for her. Eva goes for all the wrong guys.”
“So you’re trying to save her?”
“I’m trying to save all of us,” he said, heading toward the garage. He came back with two screwdrivers. “Now are you going to help me or not?”
“Fine,” she said, taking a screwdriver. “How many are we slashing?”
“All of them,” he said, as if it was obvious.
Mina looked at the screwdriver with curiosity. “How do you slash a tire?”
Isaiah shrugged as he poked at the front tire. “I don’t know. Just stab it until you hear the air coming out.”
Mina knelt down next to Isaiah, at the back tire. She jammed the screwdriver into the tire and nothing happened. She jammed it a little harder this time and heard the air rushing out of the hole. Mina smiled at her work. She looked to the side and found that Isaiah wasn’t there anymore. Air was rushing out of the hole he’d made, too. He’d already moved on to the next tire.
“Did you do it?” Isaiah called from the other side of the car.
“Yeah,” she said, proud of herself.
Isaiah reappeared in front of her and kissed her forehead. “I already slashed the others.”
“I wanted to do one more,” Mina complained.
“Too late,” he said, taking the screwdriver back. She followed him into the garage and he put the tools back in the box where they belonged. They went into the house and took off their coats. “Wanna order Chinese?”
