CHAPTER 19—AUBREY
Dear Reader,
I can’t say that I’ve done much with my life since high school.
High school was fine. I stuck with Kyla and Mina and we ended up forming a new clique, with a few other guys in our grade. It wasn’t the same as having Shane and Sebastian and Ivy around, but it was something. I missed Richie mostly but he was always out of town, doing band things.
Hayden and I got together senior year. We even made it past that. Neither of us went to college. We stayed in Page, got jobs, and moved in together. We’re still together. Except now we live in North Carolina. Charlotte, to be exact. He wanted to move because it was cheaper and he had family here. Besides, it wasn’t like being in New York was benefitting me much. We’ve been living here for almost three years.
Hayden works in construction. He makes pretty good money considering the circumstances. I, however, work at a clothing store. They just recently made me manager, which pays more.
I’d say we’re both doing pretty well since neither of us went to college. We live in a one bedroom apartment right now, but we’re moving soon since I just found out that I’m pregnant. I was surprised when Hayden said he wanted a baby. This new baby is a chance to redeem myself from the abortion I had eight years ago.
To this day, Shane is the only person that knows. I think about him from time to time, but not too often. I wonder how he’s doing. I haven’t really spoken to anyone from New York other than my sister. I know that Richie’s band is doing well. I came across an article about the band the other day. It’s crazy how quickly things change.
Richie and I haven’t spoken since Hayden and I left Page. He’s wrapped up in his band stuff. And I’ve changed phone numbers a few times so losing contact was inevitable.
Anyway, I’m just ready for my baby to be born. I’m only three months pregnant, but I’m ready to give birth now. I’m tired of the morning sickness and the cravings and mood swings. Hopefully it’s a boy even though Hayden wants a girl.
