CHAPTER THIRTEEN—ISAIAH & SEBASTIAN

Isaiah paced back and forth, waiting for someone to walk out of the hospital room with some news. Mina was worried, too, but she was sitting. Isaiah just felt horrible about the whole thing. They’d been here for the whole day and no one had told him anything. Ivy’s life was on the line and Isaiah wasn't even sure where his brother was. He didn’t even know if he was alive. His phone kept going straight to voicemail, which worried him.

He couldn’t lose Ivy and his brother. But he had to keep positive. Ivy would be fine. And his brother would be, too. He fucking hoped so. He just wanted for things to be okay again. But he’d been so stressed out. Everyone had. Between the drama with Shane and Aubrey, along with Ivy and Kyla, Ivy’s suicide attempt, and his brother’s disappearance, he had no idea which was worse. Everything was just so fucked up.

He picked up his phone and called his brother again. For the thousandth time, the phone went straight to Sebastian’s voicemail. He felt like a terrible brother. Sebastian was his twin. Wasn’t he supposed to have some clue of where his brother could be? Why was this happening? He just needed his brother to come home. He needed for his brother to be okay, unharmed.

Without his brother, he felt sort of lost. His brother was his other half. Even though he hated Sebastian’s guts half of the time, they were still brothers. Isaiah still loved him, despite all of the fucked up shit he did from time to time.

He sat down with his head in his hands. Mina rubbed his back. He sat up and gave his girlfriend a half smile. “Thanks babe,” he said and kissed her cheek.

Shane walked out of the hospital room with a smile. His parents followed and told him that they’d go get everyone something to eat. Mina and Isaiah both thanked them before the disappeared down the hallway with the cream colored walls and green and white tiled floors.

“She’s gonna be okay,” Shane announced. “They pumped her stomach. She’s awake now . . . and she wants to see you.”

Isaiah smiled and relief swept over him. Ivy was safe and sound. And that was all that mattered. He stood up and went inside, with Mina following closely behind.

Ivy smiled as she spotted Isaiah coming into her room. “Hi,” she said quietly.

“How are you feeling?” asked Mina.

Ivy nodded. “I’m doing okay.”

Isaiah asked, “Why’d you do this, Ivy?”

“Have you ever been sick and tired of being sick and tired?” Ivy frowned. “I fucked up . . . and I didn’t know what to do or where to go or who to talk to. I just felt like everything was my fault. With Sebastian, with Kyla . . . Kyla would just give me looks—the kind that would make you want to disappear and shrink into nothing. It all just got too much. I’m sorry, guys.”

Mina cast her friend a small smile. She walked over to the hospital bed and squeezed Ivy’s hand. “I’m just glad it didn’t work.”

Isaiah stepped forward. “What happened to my brother isn’t your fault. We’ll find him.” He smiled, too. “I’m just glad you’re here.”

Ivy looked down at her fingernails and began to pick at her cuticles. “I just . . . felt like no one really needed me anymore.”

“Don’t say that,” Mina said.

“Of course we need you,” added Isaiah. “I need you, Mina needs you, your brother does. Everyone needs you. You mean a lot to us. We’re all friends, Ivy. Even though things might be a little fucked up right now, it’ll all work out.”
