Chapter 05: Pick On Me

***

I do what I like, and I like what I do. So if you don’t like me, then I don’t like you.

-          Some famous saying

Half an hour passed when the Feast ended and the students were ushered into their dormitories by Head Boys and Girls. Right now, the common room was empty since most Slytherins had gone to the washroom to take a shower, while Lukas and I stayed behind. We were waiting for the washrooms to de-clog and were catching up on what we missed with each other during summer.

It was a pretty happy conversation, until –

“Bet you loved that, didn’t you, Connolly?”

I looked back over the couch edge to see the walls part large enough to admit Draco, Crabbe and Goyle in. Pansy was nowhere to be seen, which explained the lack of bitching – but hey, I wasn’t complaining.

That was totally fine with me.

She was still probably in the lavatories with her friends, dolling her blossomless-self up.

Speaking of which, it looked like that’s where Draco and his crew just came from too. All of their heads were damp and pure white towels were slung over their shoulders.

Crabbe was dressed in a green nightgown with a sleeping cap lopsidedly hanging on his head. He looked bloated as usual, but gave a sleepy nod as a greeting. Beside him was Goyle, who wore an XL black shirt over silk-like pajama shorts and matching fuzzy black slippers.

Draco, on the other hand, modeled in a well-fitted black shirt and rather loose green-and-black plaid pants. A true Slytherin wearing true Slytherin colors. Of course.

“You’re just an attention hog, aren’t you?” He sneered at me.

I raised an eyebrow and glanced over at Lukas, but he seemed equally confused as I was. He simply shrugged and we both turned back to Draco.

“What are you talking about this time?” I asked.

The blond-headed boy scoffed and walked over to the couch so he could leer down. “Don’t be so coy, Connolly,” he said. “Everyone saw you practically all over that Durmstrang guy. Can’t keep your hands off him, can you?”

I gave him a blank stare. “Right, Malfoy. If that was hung over, I’d hate to think of the word they use for you, since you were flirting with those Beauxbatons girls.”

Lukas coughed, sounding strangely close to a laugh, but shut up one Draco shot him a sharp look. Crabbe and Goyle carefully hid behind him too, so that he wouldn’t see their silent sniggering, but were quick to stop as well.

Draco turned back to me. “I was not flirting with them.”

“Yes you were.” I said flatly.

“No, I wasn’t.”

“Yes, you were.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“No.”

“Yes.”

“I’m not that desperate.”

“That’s a complete outright lie,” I said, rolling my eyes exaggeratedly. “I saw you goggling them, Malfoy. I’m not blind.”

“I was not – … okay, well, maybe I was, but why does that matte – … wait, hold on.” His gaze narrowed down at me, but the stupidly amused smirk returned again. Both cocky and arrogant like that drat ego of his, he leaned down and crossed his arms on the couch edge. “Why does that matter to you?”
