STEVEN'S POINT OF VIEW

I watched with wide eyes as the spear Mordo had thrown rocketed through the air, the wind whistling around it as it surged forward, right towards Ana, who was still grinning widely at me to not notice it as it came closer. I couldn't move, and I hated myself for it as the spear pierced her side, making her gasp in pain, her shields dissipating from her fingers and into thin air like dust, and she stumbled backwards, gasping for air with eyes coated in pain. Gritting my teeth in raw rage, I cried out as I sent my own metal spear towards Mordo, who was too busy watching his work that he didn't notice it until it pierced his chest, cutting his laughter short into airy breaths of victory.

Mordo laughed dryly, his voice raspy and deep before he collapsed backwards, his skin draining of color and the violet smoke around him misting away, his eyes staring blankly towards the sky, dead. " Steven," Ana pleaded quietly, before her knees buckled, and she started to fall, her eyes lolling. I quickly slid down beside her, and she landed softly on my arms as I supported her head, and Mordo's spear disappeared, its creator gone. Maroon blood soaked through Ana's cloak, staining the navy blue as her eyes seemed to cover with a thick haze, their usual brightness gone like it was never there. " Ana, you're okay, you're okay, Ana. Hold on," I assured shakily, failing to keep my voice from breaking as hot liquid rolled down my cheeks from  my eyes. Her breathing was raspy and shaky, her eyelids fluttering constantly like in a limbo.

Looking down at her wound, my stomach rolled at the grueling sight, but I pressed my hands there, applying as much pressure as I could, my whole body trembling. The blood soaked my hands, seeping between my fingers, coating them in stains, but I didn't care. I wouldn't let her die, I wouldn't. I had promised myself she wouldn't get hurt. My heart pounded rapidly in my ears, adrenaline rushing through my body as the blood continued to flow, and I winced as Ana groaned in agony, her brows furrowing deeply in pain as she glanced over at me, her expression blank. Her hand slowly lifted up and her fingers slid in between mine, squeezing with as much strength as she could. The familiar flutter in my chest happened again, and the warmth of her hands calmed me slightly, but not enough to where I didn't stop applying pressure.

" Steven," Ana said, clearing her throat as she ran her thumb over my knuckles, and the pain slipping between her words sent shivers up my spine. I looked down at her with glassy eyes, and small droplets of water rolled down her cheeks as well, and I sniffled, clasping her hand in both of mine. She grinned softly, but I saw the sorrow in her eyes. I bit my lip harshly, guilt swallowing me as I let out a choked sob, gasping for air as my body shook with quiet sobs. " I'm sorry, Ana. I'm so sorry. I said I would protect you and I didn't, and now, now you're-" I couldn't finish the sentence as I whimpered slightly, and she exhaled deeply, opening her mouth to say something. " I'll never leave, Steven. I'll always be here, like you were for me." Her voice became more airy with each word, and I watched, my heart shattering into splinters of glass, as she drifted away, her eyes losing their brightness and her skin turning pale as her hand slumped inside mine, lifeless and weightless.

I had said I'd protect her, vow I would never let anything happen to her. And I failed.
