crusade.

but where were you?
when i was
screaming for help
at the bottom
of the pit
you watched me
drowning
from the top
like i was some
kind of soap opera

dear heart
what happened to
i'll always be here
and
i'm with you 'til the end
where did that go

yes, we were so young
when we vowed to
protect each other
from whatever demons
and monsters
came our way
with rubber arrows

and wooden swords

but that doesn't mean
i didn't mean
what i fucking said

my promise is not like
one of the many toys
that graced the sheets
of childhood

it is not something
you can shove into a closet
and forget about
as life goes on

it is a symbol of our courage
how you were my protector
and i was yours
or it was

you tossed it aside
