why do we have to grow up?
why now?make it stop
why can't we tell jokes about giraffes
and scream on the swings like we used to?
i miss when kisses were just chocolate drops
and my biggest worry was about running out of indigo crayon
when stupid was the worst thing you could say,
and demons were just the older kids who kicked you out of the playgroundwhen all it took were a few building blocks to keep us entertained
and nobody cared if tommy bridger knew the entire alphabet by heart
but grew very angry if he stole the cream from their oreos at snacktime
because in kindergarten, it didn't matter
we were so young.
today we walk corrupted in the soil of sin
where discrimination is more than just a vocabulary word for the spelling bee
and you can bravely ask which disease your uncle died froma verbal generation, where words tend to make a bigger impact
than actions
and kids think it's okay to smoke the pot
because they saw mommy smiling for the first time when she put the cigarette in her mouth
(they didn't see her lying later on the ground with empty, bloodshot eyes, hair a nest, teeth yellow and cracked)this is the world we live in now,
and though it may not be the world we want,
it is our home, and the least we can do is
try and slow the rottingand we can do this by
bringing back the world
we knew.remember the simple things.
build each other up instead of tearing each other down.
share your blessings.smile, and make others smile too.
give a lot of hugs.and, never ever put rocks in your mouth.
