The Mermaid I Am

Chapter Nine

I put Adam on a blanket that I had gotten from my bag, and began to try to build a tent, emphasis on TRY. I had never goon camping or anything like this before so I wasn't sure what to do. Thankfully Adam helped me some by giving me some direction. I'm not really sure how he knew how to make a tent, considering he's lived in a cabin all his life..well at least I think he has. I took one of my blankets and some sticks I found and followed what Adam said. "Now just put that stick right there." Adam said. "Like this?" I replied. "Yeah! Perfect!" Adam said. It wasn't that bad! I was pretty proud that I managed to do it! (Even if I did have directions). "Adam?" I said in a worried tone. "Y-yes?" He replied, still winded. "Are you going to be ok?" I asked scared. "Yeah, I hope so." He said back. "Hey Anna?" He asked. "Yes?" I said. "Are you still hurting?" He asked worried. I had been so worried about Adam and if he was ok, that I completely forgot my pain. "Yeah I guess I'm ok" I replied. "Why did I do that! I'm so stupid!" Adam yelled. "What?!" I replied. "The-the.." Adam stutter. "What is it Adam?!" I replied quickly. "The kiss" Adam said. "What about it?" I asked. "When a merman kisses a mermaid that has not yet gained her tail.." Adam stopped. "What? What is it!" I asked urgently. "It can make the mermaid turn into one within two days" he finished. "WHAT! I'm getting a tail! How and I going to walk!" I yelled. "You'll only get the tail when you get wet. But I should have not kissed you. When I was little my mom used to tell me to NEVER kiss a premature mermaid. I promise to her I would never do it, but when I saw you.." I cut Adam off. "How could you do this! You know how I fell about being a mermaid!" I yelled. "I know! But I.." Adam said. "No!" I yelled. "I'm going to be in the tent." I said angrily. "No wait!" Adam said, but I ignored him. As I walked into the tent, my head was going crazy. There's no way I can be a mermaid! My family! What would they say! What if I get wet near them! Can they even know!? I had a million questions. By now it was around 3:00 pm and I had been in the tent for about an hour now. I stepped out the tent to see Adam, making a fire. Usual I would tell him to stop because he might hurt himself, but I think I'll take my chances. As I walked by him I went to my horse to grab some food for lunch. "Hi girl." I said to my horse. I had decided to name her magic. As I grabbed four apples I gave one to Adams horse, my horse, and saved the other for me and Adam, even though At this point, I wouldn't mind if he starved. I really do like Adam but how could he, knowing the risk! I just don't know how to feel about him. "Hey.." I said to him. "Hey swee-" I cut him off once more. "Don't call me sweetie..I just came to give you an apple." I said back. "Oh um..thanks" he said. "How do you feel?" Even though I could care less at this point, I wasn't going to be a jerk. "I'm fine" he said back. I was shocked, all his cuts and scares, were gone! Must be from the whole magic merman thing. "I see you've healed up already." I said. "Yeah, it's a merman thing" he replied. "Please don't be mad at me." He said. "Why shouldn't I be!" I said back. "I really didn't mean to hurt you.. my feelings got the best of me. I'm sorry." He said. "Look you may be sorry but that doesn't change the fact that I'm going to be a mermaid. Who knows if I'll see my family again!" I said as I started crying. "Anna...I'm so so sorry." He said as he came to hug me. "Adam" I said while in the hug with Adam. "Yes?" He replied. "Promise that no matter what happened to me, you'll keep me safe?" I asked. "Promise" he said back. As I looked into his beautiful blue eyes, we leaned into a kiss. Somehow this one was even better than the first one. "Annabelle?" He said. "Yes?" I replied. "Do you-?" He stuttered. "Love you?" I asked. "Yeah.." he said. "Sure, you could say that."
