Give Peace A Chance
New York,1970
"All we are saying! Is give peace a chance!" John and I sang. We were holding a protest, and decided to sing the tune we released a year ago. "Let me tell you now, Everybody's talkin' 'bout Revolution, Evolution, Masturbation, Flagellation, Regulation, Integrations, mediations, United Nations, congratulations!" We all chanted. I looked out at the crowd infront of us, thousands of people who came here today,to end the war. I got on the microphone,"You know, I think if we try,if we really try, we can end the disgusting war!" I yelled. "Yeah!" Everyone yelled back. "But,we gotta be peaceful, don't give into big brother's violence!" We sang "Happy christmas,"and "gimme truth." When the police finally got there we decided we weren't going to resist today. "I suggest you folks go home." The officer grunted. "And I suggest you join us, but that's your problem." I smiled. John and I eventually got home and I opened the door to our house. I sighed as I slapped the key on the table in the hallway. "Don't be upset Emma, you did great." He smiled. "Thank you John." I smiled back. We took our shoes off and hung our coats up. We went to the kitchen to cook dinner and I turned on a record. "The protest today went really well, until the pigs got there." I rolled my eyes as I ate a forkful of pasta. "Lots of people." He smiled. "Paul called yesterday." I spoke up. John looked up at me,surprised by my statement. "Em I told you-" "John he's still one of your friends!" I cut him off, slamming my fork against the table. John sighed,"I guess you're right." "Thank you. Now why don't you call him after dinner?" "But-" "John, just see what he wants!" "Fine." He sighed. He got up and went over to the phone. He dialed the number, and waited for the line to pick up. "Ello' Pol." He smiled at me. It turns out Paul was calling to congratulate John and I on our peace rallies. "See,he was just being a good friend!" "You're always right." John sighed. "Yes,yes I am." I smiled.
