Jake's POV
I popped up from my desk as the rest of the students packed up their books. For the first time today, I joined the crowd, pushing my way to my locker. I bumped into someone, knocking them down. The person's books crashed to the ground with a thud.
"Sorry," I mumble while picking the books. I lifted my eyes to the person's face, and found myself staring into the gray eyes of Alexandra. She glared at me and snatched the books out of my arms. She spun around and stomped off.
"Hey, hey! Wait up!"
She twirled around to face me. "Oh, is it Mister-I'm-too-good-too-good-to-pay-attention-in-class? I've heard about your reputation, and I really don't want anything to do with it!"
She turned around again to go to her locker, leaving me in the dust. A few moments later, I was joined by John. "Hey, you just get told off by the newbie?"
"Shut up," I growled at him. I basically ran to my next class, even though I was ten minutes early.
I threw my books to the ground and slid into the seat. I sat with my chin in my hands, but looked up as I felt someone sit down in the desk next to me. It was John, his face anxious, as if he was afraid I was going to yell at him.
"Hey, man, it was a joke," he said.
"I'm not mad at you." He sighed in relief, seeing as I usually hold grudges, and we started chatting away, waiting for class to start. I cracked a stupid joke, and we laughed. Finally, he turned to me.
"Hey, I have a dare for you! I dare you to get the next girl who walks in the room to go to the Valentine's Day dance with you! If you don't, you have to give me your lunch for the rest of the year!"
I quickly agreed, seeing as most girls would go with me. We shook, and the deal was made. We settled down, and stared at the door. Maybe two minutes later, my soon to be date to the dance, walked in.
My eyes grew wide and my mouth dropped open. The girl sat down three seats in front of me and I was left staring at her hair. Her silvery, blonde, braided, hair. In front of me sat the only girl I knew would turn me down.
"Oh man, I'm doomed."
In front of me sat the one and only Alexandra Sarns.
