Alexandra's POV
The boy's locker room door slammed in my face. "Hey!" I yelled to Jake,"stop being a jerk and come out!" He ignored me. "Seriously! I need to talk to you!" I made a split-second decision and knocked on the door. "Hey, if you don't come out, I'm coming in!"
I could hear a muffled shout from the inside. "You can't! It's the boy's locker room!" Ignoring him, I pushed on the door, only to have it ripped open. Jake was standing in the doorway, and I smiled.
"You're crazy you know. Super crazy. Fine. You have five minutes."
I stared at him straight in the eye. "What's going down with you and Izzy? You went quiet and wouldn't look at her!"
He turned his head to the side. "I don't have to tell you anything."
I sighed in frustration. "Jeez!" I burst out. "You act like you've had the worst time in the world, but yet you won't say why! Some of us have been through hard times too, you know!"
This time, he didn't break our gaze, and I was stuck staring into his beautiful sea green eyes. I wanted to looks away, but I couldn't. "Then tell me about your hard time. I'm listening," he said, still not looking away.
I took a deep breath. "My dad is a really successful businessman, as I said before. We have to move around a lot, so I don't have a lot of time to make friends. My dad is so caught up in his work that he never pays attention to me. My mom was fine until my little brother was born, and then she ignored me too. Most kids only hang out with me to get things, and my first boyfriend dumped me for a different girl. I didn't tell anyone at this school yet because I want to live a normal life for once!" I finished my speech and stared at Jake expectantly.
"I don't want to get you involved. It would most likely ruin your view of this school."
"Hey! I told you this huge thing about me, and yet you won't tell me the tiny thing about you and Izzy!" I was mad at him. I shared something really personal with him and he still won't tell me.
"Look, it's not that I don't trust you, but when Izzy it mad, she gets, um, a tad bit crazy," he explained.
"Fine! Then tell me about your family!"
"There's not much about it. I've got a little brother named Chris and and older sister named Dianne. My mom is a teacher for the preschool and my dad is a couch potato, so I have a half-time job on Saturday. That's basically it," he said with a shrug.
We stood there for awhile not saying anything. I stared into his eyes and spoke up. "I think I can allow it."
He looked at me, his eyes showing his confusion. "What?"
I smiled. "I think I will allow you to be my guide, on one condition." I thought back to what Izzy has told me. "You cannot fall in love with me."
He rolled his eyes. "You don't really have a choice. I'm your guide, whether you like it or not."
"Promise me. Promise me you won't fall in love with me," I insisted.
"Fine, I promise that I won't fall in love with you! Jeez, what's your problem?!" I sighed in relief after hearing those words.
"I'm perfectly fine! First things first, though. You probably should shut the door." Jake stepped away from the door, letting it shut behind him. "Now let's get to class." I motioned for him to lead the way.
"Sometime I will tell you my problem with Izzy. Just not now." He said it so quietly, I could barely hear him. He took off in the opposite direction that we came, leaving me to stare at his back. Why was he being so secretive? So, done! Just so y'all know, the Character Contest is still up, so you can still comment! Have a great day, everyone!
